About three weeks ago I purchased a new CRT tv for my grandparents. Just yesterday I noticed that the tv is making a clicking or ticking noise where the side vents are. I noticed this when the tv is off and I wasn't able to check to see if it does it when the tv is on. The clicking/ticking is faster than that of clock but it's not too fast. It's only really noticable if you're standing beside the tv and it's fairly quiet in the room. Other than that the tv works great.

Is there something wrong with the tv for it to be clicking/ticking? Should it be taken back? Sorry, I don't have the brand and model number at this time, I'll try to get it.

If it's new it's normal, it's just the components inside the tv breaking in.

It's a normal sound from the power supply when in standby. Here's a full explanation of switching power supply pulse mode.

I read the explanation in the link and it sounds like the ticking is normal.

Just in case anyone is wondering the TV is a Sanyo HT27547 and does not make the sound while it is turned on.

I was really worried I would have to take it back to the store and that would be such a pain. It's so huge that the store employee had to take it out of the box to get it in the back seat of my car. Then I couldn't even get it out of my car when I got to my grandparents house. I had to call my father to help. The last thing I want to do is to take that big, heavy thing back to the store.
