at the same price i think that the planar 7060 will be the general front runner.

its about 100 more than the sharp. i think the DarkChip3 might sell me on the planar....

but im a college student, price is always very important. Is there such thing as response time with projectors? I play a lot of ps3 through HDMI.

Also the fact the the planar is the oldest model of three was a small turn off

If I'm not mistaken DLP response times are measured in microseconds, not milliseconds, so no worries there. Just the color wheel speed to worry about.

I didnt even look at the color wheel with these models... Thanks ill look into that

its 5x 5x and LCD (benq) so no color wheel on that.

I might stick with the lowest cost sharp or just wait it out for a better price to show up

DLP mirrors oscillate on/off at thousands of times per second to vary the light intensity. This is why the response time is in microseconds, not milliseconds.

Call around to all the Best Buys within 100 miles of you to see if any have a Mitsubishi HC1500 still laying around. They have been clearing for < $600.

Like Reconlabtech said your best bet would be to find an HC1500 since you are on a tight budget. If not the Sharp DT-510 will work very well for you. The 7060 will be the best built of those projectors and it is DC3.

The W500 is a very good starter projector. In fact its handling for resolution will spoil you. Panning motions in 1080/24p is stunning!

No animals were harmed in the creation of this sentence.

For a first projector all of them will be impressive. I also like the HQV processing in the 500, but I prefer the DLP look over LCD. Hard to go too wrong no matter what current projector you pick.

The W500 will have the edge in placement flexibility and also has incredibly low video-lag. The HQV processing is also spectacular, it scales 1080p content down to 720p superbly.

If you're a gamer, it's a great projector. If you're a movie-nut, you're going to be bothered by having to sacrifice your black-levels to get shadow-detail to show up.

I have a W500, and I'm thinking about snagging a Planar 7060 if I can mount it in exactly the same place. I'm sensitive to DLP-rainbows, but I'm willing to give it a shot for the price. I can sell either one for not much of a loss depending on which one I go with.

I don't play too many games anymore on my projection setup other than Rock Band. Everything else gets played on my LCD computer monitor from my 360 (because I can play at any time of the day, rather than only at night when its dark).

I like the 510 for for the almost minimal throw angle. Very important for placement flexibility. A newbie to projectors will appreciate this feature very quickly.

Does not hurt either that the DT-510 throws an amazing image.
