I found the lamp P-VIP 250/1.3E21.8 on Ebay for a good price but it looks different than the stock lamp that we have in the PD7130. I understand that this same lamp is used in other brand projectors but I want to make sure it's good to buy.

I appreciate it guys!

All,

My bulb is going black after about 1 minute of use. I called Planar support and they said it is probably the bulb going out. I have about 1350 hours on the original bulb. Not bad on "bright" mode I guess... Anyway, I decided to order a new bulb from bulbtogo.com that matches the same OSRAM model. Do you think it is compatible?

http://www.bulbtogo.com/rear-project...rod_11287.html

Thanks,
Brian Snyder

Same bulb I ordered from http://www.replacementlightbulbs.com/lamp69378.html
And it has worked fine in mine for over 500 hours, it is however, $26 less than I paid.

I may order one from your site as a spare.

looks like my bulb is toast. 2280 hours on it so I should not complain much. I have always run it in econ mode but now it stays on for about 5 min and then the bulb goes out. I get no flashing red telling me bulb is having issue though. I put it in the high power mode and it stay lit for an hour or so before turning it off. I have heard running in the HP mode will extend the lamp life some but I don't want it to explode either. I have a Mack warranty so I will order a new bulb as that seems to be the problem...anything I am missing?

update:

Pulled out the bulb and cleaned th pj. The bulb looked fine but hell who knows. Put it back in and turned it on and Viola! She lit right up and seems to be ok now. Will see over the next few days how it goes. At any rate I have initiated a replacement bulb procedure with Mack.

Anyone else had this type of experience?

Jumbo11,

I did buy the bulb from bulbtogo.com and it is working perfectly. I would have to say the phone customer service was terrrible! But if you order correctly online and don't need to make any changes to your shipping (like I did) you should be just fine.

Scooterdog,

I had a similar problem quite a few months ago. I think the shutting down issue was related to dust build up. I blew off the vents and vacuumed where I could without opening the case up and it cleared up the issue.

Ditto, PJ looks great.

My bulb went as the others have mentioned, but only at 100 hours or so, and was replaced by Planar and has not had an issue since. (it would shut down).

With only 100 hours on the bulb, I would think that $450-500 would not be out of the question. They don't seem to come up for sale often, so I'm just picking a number out of the air.

As for an update of my own PD-7150: I just checked the timer and I've got 1700 hours on it. My fan sometimes runs at high when first started, but it seemed to only do it when the room was pretty cool in the summer. Now that the heat is on it doesn't seem to do it so much. I reported this issue in a previous post, but didn't bother calling Planar to get it fixed.

My wife has said that she's had to turn it off a couple times when she went down to the laundry room. Apparently the projector is sensing stray IR and interpreting it as ON commands. I do leave the power on at the projector at all times. The issues I had with it not turning off with my 880 has been fixed by changing the timing in the Logitech software.

Overall, it's been a great 2 years with this projector. Now I'm just debating whether I should buy a spare bulb or put that money towards a lower-end 1080 projector. I'll probably just get the bulb and keep it on hand.

Mcavity,

It looks like the cheaper lamp is probably the same lamp. The key is make sure you buy the lamp with the same OSRAM product code (probably VIP 250/1.3E21.8) as the bulb that is currently in your projector. I would take out the bulb and check it just to be sure...

Our picture recently started getting very dark - I guess 2800 hrs on a lamp will do that. It has performed well throughout, and we've been generally happy with the purchase, though we aren't fond of the remote.

I tried ordering from bulbstogo.com, but the transaction failed multiple times through both PayPal and their other payment option (PayPal produced an error message; the site just redirected me to their homepage without completing the transaction). Trust that I will let you know if I get twelve of these things due to a website error. Any other sources you would recommend?

Mcavity, which bulb did you end up buying? Did it work well for you?

http://www.bulbtogo.com/rear-project...rod_11287.html
or
http://www.bulbtogo.com/projector-la...rod_11594.html

I'm looking to order one soon also.

BruceTurner, what about you? Have you received your 12 bulbs yet?!? Seriously, have you received one and tried it out?

Thanks,
Mike

Recently, the initial screen when the projector is turned on seems to have
gotten quite darker for me. The brightness improves after a couple of minutes
and is normal when watching the movies. The bulb has been used for about
400 hours only in eco mode.

Is this a sign of impending bulb failure or something wrong with the projector ?

Hi, everyone, I'm one of the original woot purchasers and got a 7150. I got a mack warranty when I purchased my unit, and called them, as I am finally noticing a dimming of the picture, although it isn't too bad.

I sent in all of the info and they emailed me back asking me to ship the projector in to them and they would replace the bulb.

That is great, but I didn't really want to ship the whole unit in when I'm just replacing the bulb. The lady I spoke with at Mack was nice and she said they wanted the unit shipped in because they bought the bulb only, not in the cage. She said most people didn't want to try to put the bare bulb into the unit so they did it there. She told me if I wanted to get just the bulb they would ship it out to me.

My question is, how hard is it to remove the old bulb and put the new bulb in the cage, then replace the whole thing? It looks like others here have already done it.

Thanks for any help!

I originally purchased my PD7130 from woot around 10/2008. The warranty from woot was for 2 years. So I might be out of warranty now...

I am having an issue that started last week. When I turn on the projector the exhaust fan for the bulb is making a horribly loud JET fan noise. It is so forceful that it sounds like the unit is choking on air. The noise is on the front vent where you can see a fan on the far side if you shine a flashlight through the vent hole. This is not related to the back vent that has a fan visible right next to the vent. The noise is so loud that I can hear it a room or two away.

I called Planar (didn't have my serial number with me)...and they said if it was out of warranty the flat rate repair bill would be $500!!! OUCH! But they did say that this is an issue they have heard of before.

Does anyone have any information about what the root cause of this issue might be?

Brian

Snickel,

That's too bad. I am wondering if there is a solution to fix this for less than the flat rate $500.

old bulb will not die. 5214 hours on it and was still going.
I have not yet seen any deals that make me want to up grade my projector so I figure wait another year or two.
