Thanks for sharing your experience.

I would guess that there would be less heat in low lamp mode, but perhaps the fans run slower in low lamp mode which could cause overheating.

It perplexes me that Mitsubishi hasn't come forth with any information about this yet. I am very interested in this projector, but I won't go for it until Mitsubishi provides some explanation about causes and solutions to the shutdown problem.

We'll more than likely never get an official explanation from Mitsubishi. What will probably happen is, units will just magically start shipping with no shutdowns.

It's scary that people now are returning them because someone else has problems!

This is a major bummer that people continue to have issues. I really hope it gets resolved for all you guys as soon as possible.

It's started making me look to the Epson 8100 and possibly the BenQ W1000 once there are more than 3 of them in circulation.

Be patient Bill. There's no need to go to LCD.

Art Feierman of projectorreviews.com has finally been informed of the shutdown problem and is looking into it (he finally got a production HC3800 to check out) - mentioned it at the bottom of his HC3800 "first look" blog.

I know. I'll stay strong. This unit is still my front runner if the issue is fixed.

I want to buy my new projector by the end of Dec. And as a DLP fan, I will not go for Epson 8100 or anything else. Hope Mitsubishi releases second and of course shutdown-free batch soon.

Like jas000 said Art is on the job and says Mitsubishi is aware of the problem and he will post maybe today with what he learns from his contact at Mitsubishi regarding the shutdown issue.

Actually I am joining the guinea pig ranks - and have one on order to replace my aging CRT (Marquee 81110+ )

I will need to test fairly soon after receiving to verify no shutdown issues; so I will read through this thread to check whether HDMI or general use related, and also await feedback from Mitsubishi / the above blog in case it is firmware related or not.

It there are problems I will return and upgrade as well - but I need to do it within a fixed time frame.

I am hoping that all goes well so I don't get involved in a revolving projector scenario.

Wow... this is good news. I just can't stand the wait. Hopefully the second batch is free from this shutdown issue.

According to the warranty Mitsubishi can either repair or replace at their discretion if it's defective. My guess would be that they would first try to repair it and if they can't repair it then replace it with a new one.

I'm probably going to by one today because of the "cyber monday" deals. I'm hoping that Art got a newer model since he does say he's been running 28 hours on the production model without issues.

Legairre is right, projector people had a deal, and another company had a package deal. It wasn't major, but since this thing just hit the street late october I don't see the msrp dropping any time soon, so I thought I should take advantage of it.

Needless to say I bought it, and hopefully it will be shutdown free

Art has updated his blog with info about Mits USA being aware of the problem and providing freight both ways to replace the projectors that are currently having problems.

This is really great news. Nice to see Mitsu step up and not just fix it, but they seem to be replacing the bad units. If you have one call their tech support @ 1-888-307-0309

Once someone gets a replacement unit it would be interesting to see what version of the firmware is on it since we never got an explanation to what the problem was.

Wonder if it was software or hardware related?

Well, this one is back to the #1 spot on my upgrade option.

Not only for the incredible reviews it's gotten and the fact that it's DLP, but how quickly and professionally Mitsubishi is handling the situation.

Are u using 1080p output via HDMI? Is there any image altering modes u can switch off? sounds quite a lot comparing the older (720p) projectors. new projectors must have too much things happening before signal is put on lamp.

'The Mitsubishi HC3800 will be powered by Texas Instruments’ DDP3021 Digital Light Processing TrueVision Image processor DLP chip that is touted to offer high detail and amazing color depth.'

i guess thats the chip.. not the slowest one but definately not fastest neither.

thanks sigma11 for report \\o
