When buying a battery back-up, what numbers should I look out for? I'm thinking of having my projector, receiver and PS3 backed up so there will be no interruption when watching a movie. Do I match the watts, voltage or volt amps? Thanks

In my experience I wouldn't use a battery ups to finish a movie. When the lights go out and your ups connected components are still humming it is best to calmly and quickly turn them off. You will be too busy turning of the warning rings to enjoy finishing a movie anyway...maybe finish a short scene, but not a movie. You might want to look into a fairly expensive gas generator system for a more powerful emergency source of electricity.

When electricity goes out then comes back on there may be surges and spikes as I understand it. Might want to unplug the ups unit until things settle down. I invested in a whole house surge protector (not that expensive) and my electrician still recommended using my regular surge protectors in addition. Here on the Oregon coast storm induced electrical problems have taken out stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, etc. you name it. Guess I am the belt AND suspenders type but I have a lot fewer electrical problems than my neighbors.

That's what I did. Met my neighbors two years ago during a 4 day power outage. We had dinner at my house and then watched movies, courtesy of a 16kW generator. Worked great 'till it was time to pay the propane bill!

Thx

If you have a battery backup, when you lose power the projector will keep running...but, you want to then shut it down normally. The battery should keep it powered long enough to go through the cooldown phase. Once that is complete (assuming power is back on) you can restart. If you don't have a battery backup and lose power, it's best to wait more like 1+ hours.

Sometimes we get lucky and reality is much better than speculation! I suspect we will be able to buy this year's Epson 8500, next year's improved version and the following year's super improved version all for less than this year's Sony VW85 and JVC's RS25. The equipment junkie in me says, "YIPEE!" My equipment upgrade each year will be relatively much easier to rationalize!

The above thread asks this question. The last post in the thread (post #17) references the custom installer I deal with.

Good luck!

Hope people post back reviews / screen shots, etc... I'm SO close to buying a Pana4000 but am trying to hold on until this lands.

I believe that 11/30 is the date they will leave Epson to go to the dealers, not when they will arrive.

And that was just an estimate. No one has confirmed that anything left the Epson warehouse yet, afaik.

Hi Jason,

Feel free to post any tracking numbers of projectors en-route to AVS so we can get the day-by-day story.

Hopefully in time for the Superbowl...

I just hope they're not busy swapping out less expensive parts to meet the new pricing demands...

It's not bad, but definitely still have light come thru. It's by no way a "dark" room.

I will be having plantation shutters installed in the new house sometime in the next few weeks. Was hoping that they would control light well enough on their own. If not I plan on putting some of those small roll shades inside the shutters so I won't need curtains on the outside and keep the look me and the wife are going for. sorry for the off topic post

How do people wire a UPS battery back up unit for their projector? Is the actual UPS sitting next to the projector (perhaps mounted in the ceiling?) or do you run an extension cable and keep the UPS unit on the floor?

I keep hearing a lot about using UPS's with their projectors. Is it really needed at all? Fair enough if the power fails the fans will also but the bulbs should be able to cope with this shouldn't they?

This is great news. Well Projector People have still not received theirs. They expect them later this week like AVS does.

This is all good news, soon enough we will all have new toys...
