I've been following Oman's curved screen build and am up for the task. Although I haven't bought my projector, it will need to be entry level (<$2500). Adding an amorphic lens will be cost prohibitive. While I like the way a curved screen pulls you into the movie, I get the impression that a curved screen without an amorphic lens is a bad idea. Is an amorphic lens required for satisfactory results using a curved screen or will the standard lens be acceptable?

Negative. There is no way a projector with a standard lens will give you an acceptable image on a curved screen. You will have serious issues with edge - to edge focus and the image will have a severe double horizontal keystone problem.

In other words, if you set the image for proper height and focus in the middle of the screen, the sides will be out of focus and smaller in height than the middle because the sides are closer to the projector.
