I have also been enjoying my new 8700UB as well that I am projecting on a Draper Premier 106 inch diagonal 16:9 motorized screen with a 1.3 gain that was purchased for my previous projector. Watching mostly through 25 foot HDMI cables with a cable DVR, Xbox 360 and Netflix and an LG BD570. This was real easy to set up and is hanging with a Projector-Gear ceiling mount. The image just pops, is clear, bright and colorful.

I never thought I would go with an LCD projector, but Art Feierman from ProjectorReviews.com helped ease my concerns with screen door effect, and seeing the 9700UB sibling at a local retailer closed the deal. Art is awesome and provides an exceptional resource with his site (as does the team here!!! )

I got it to replace a DWIN HD700 7 inch 720p CRT that needed service one time too many. I could have gotten it fixed, but with DWIN out of business it was better to put the money towards the new projector.

To be honest, all the complaints about Epson projectors, specifically this model on this forum gave me pause and almost headed me down the plasma route. I'm glad I got this and still get excited when I fire it up!

Not sure if this is the right place to post this .. but I am looking for a ceiling mount (flush or 4 inches max) for the Epson 8700UB I just purchased. Can't seem to find a decent one around here in Markham, Ontario.

Recommendations and links much appreciated.

I'm nervous. I bought a 100" Elunevision reference screen. Someone posted some pics and it looks great in dark but so washed out in ambient light. I have a 8700ub the person who posted has a 8350. I hope my 8700 does better or that the pics look worse then in person.

Your screen is not the best for Ambient light it will look washed out....
The Ansi Lumens on the 8350 is 2000....
Lumens on the 8700 are 1600 in dynamic mode....
the SI Black Diamond screen is really good for ambient light

Arggg ... I have already blown my budget by about $1500 so that screen would totally be out of the question

My original plan was to try and get a setup that looks equal or better then my 55" Sony SXRD RP TV. I spent tons of time checking out the different reviews and was hoping to get a pretty kick a$$ setup. My problem is that I get sleepy with the lights off so I like to have some light on in the room esp. if I'm watching HDTV or the news or something. I guess I will have to suck it up and get used to the dark after spending so much cash on a projector, mount, 10m HDMI cable and screen!

For now I am just going to set it up in my living room but am in the process of trying to design my basement which is 1000sq foot and a blank canvass at the moment with open roof and only exterior framing and vapor wrap up.

I think I want to make the room 15 wide x 26 long with a 7'4" drywall ceiling, no windows. I was thinking of putting 3 tiers of lighting starting at the screen running down each side of the room on seperate dimmers so I can keep some more light on towards the back of the room while leaving it dark at the front. With my 100" screen how far back do you think I should put the projector to maximize the light output for when I want to have more lighting on?

I plan on installing a 1.5" wood subfloor for the first 18' of the room then raise it up for the last 8 feet for second row viewing. I'm hoping that this will help my sub a little bit too. Still not sure what to do to try and keep sound from going upstairs, some friends suggested just regular insulation.

This room is going to be used for tv\\movies\\video games (Hopefully Kinect will work). Does it sound like a half decent plan?

After a week, whenever I turn it on, it makes a chunk-chunk-chunk sound and displays "Error in Auto-Iris. Power off and contact your nearest Epson service Center". It will not let me do anything except power it off.

I was so bummed out, especially since that projector had practically perfect convergence/panel aligment, no blobs, haze or anything.

I am getting a replacement.

Ok, so now I have replaced my unit once (it had a purple haze along the top image), I thought I had a perfect one... However, on the right side of the image I have a one-pixel alignment issue -- it's red on the left of a line and green on the right. It's fine in the center and left part of the screen... And I can see it when I do the pattern test... Is this within "spec" or is any pixel alignment unacceptable? I can't tell if my eyes are having an issue or not, but I feel like they strain when looking at the image.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks

After 8 glorious days using my first 1080 projector, the 8700 made a loud pop upon start-up and then died. The lamp light was flashing red. I guess the lamp blew out. And this after 12 hours of use. First I'll call Visual Apex and see if they can do anything. Then I'll probably have to call Epson. 8 days old and already dead. My Panasonic 720p (now my back-up) lasted three years straight without an issue.

Once I sell this one (for cheap if anyone is interested), I'm heading to the over $3K territory. No more skimping.

Do you sell this projector?
How much are you asking for it?
Let me know thanks.

UPDATE: after trying numerous things, I had my unit replaced.
It's now the way it should be and I'm so relieved. It finally looks awesome!

Just a quick question on this projector.

What is the refresh rate? 60Hz 120Hz or 240Hz?

I just cannot find the answer anywhere

It is my understanding the fastest the refresh is the better the picture look for action or any fast panning.

Thanks
