The image appeared brighter than I expected especially since there were some lights on. I wonder how big that image was as everything I have seen before has been like a 40"-60" image.

I hope you guys that have pre-ordered get these this week. I'm very anxious to hear how these are.

Well I guess Vivitek are shooting themselves in the foot with all these delays. Some gave up the wait and went for smth else and now with the (supposed) eminent release of the the Qumi, there's a new batch of leds just around the corner (supposedly ). And some of these higher spec guys aren't that much dearer tbh.

For me I've been waiting like an age for this and I'll wait for it to finally come out and to be tested and reviewed. If the quality isn't 100%, then I'll just hop on the Acer, Optoma, Viewsonic bandwagon!

Acer, Optoma, Viewsonic are all the same pj just rebranded

I think they have a agreement to bring to market at the same time-texas inst. could have work that out .

Interesting.
Hmmm can the Qumi delay just be due to an agreement that all T.I. based projectors come to market at the same time??

DIY beats store purchased.

yes if i remember correctly, some one said they did this with dlp theater PJ,s.
being able to claim the first might hold a bit of a advantage.

A months delay(or more?) due to a Qumi manufacturing supply misunderstanding sounded very fishy.

But a months or more delay due to an agreement sounds like a sure bet as to why the Qumi is delayed.

Whats upsetting is the Qumi was set for early May and then some slimy and underhanded suit(Viewsonic??) probably talked T.I. into asking Vivitek to delay the Qumi.

DIY beats store purchased.

hi everybody in this thread and hopefully you will love the qumi finally rather than be dissapointed.

I'm on the waiting list since the end of March 2011 having ordered my qumi from a very reputable US supplier.

By mid May 2011 I wrote an Email to the supplier asking them about expected arrival date of the qumi. They raised the question to Vivitek and got a reply saying THE END OF JUNE delivery.

Just relax for a while, be patient and wait for another couple of days/weeks.

Despite of all this mess, I'm still on pre-order list.

Liked your joke @Bsims2719

posted on friday:

Vivitek Due to a miscommunication between the factory and shipping, the Qumi has unfortunately been delayed in arriving in the U.S.

After _MANY_ phone calls and emails between us, the Qumi will be here in the next week. We have received written confirmation with the shipping manifest with the actual number of Qumi projectors that are on board, and when they were shipped out. Once they arrive stateside, they will be drop-shipped from our warehouses out to our customers as quickly as possible.

We want to apologize to all of you who have been eagerly awaiting the Qumi. Please know that we are just as frustrated as you about not having them here sooner.

As always, when we get the news and information, we turn around and share it to keep you in the loop.

The good news is, if they wait long enough to show up, the 500 lumen projectors might be out and this could be a quick afterthought.

My sentiments exactly.

Mr.Fresnel's "Entry Level LED" BUY-O-METER so far says:

1. Acer k330 500 lumen LED (or whichever clone is released first)
2. Casio XJ-M240 2500 Lumen 3D DLP (Still Waiting for reviews!.)
3. LG HW300T. (INCREDIBLY feature rich)
4. Vivitek Qumi. (Low priced and well rounded features including low lumen 3D)

the green casios have been reviewed , the green series are basically the same, you wont see much more on the green casios. Except for the chip and lens for the 2 different resolutions, the lumens are changed buy changing the frequency of the lasers.

I'm really considering the Optoma ML500 as my number one LED this fall. Also, got to get the GT750 for gaming

Viewsonic PLED-W500,Optoma ML500,Acer k330 are all the same PJ .You can tell from the back ,the same port config.,size ect.
the acer seems to be dlp link 3d enabled so they arnt exactly the same, but some might want 2 bites at the apple and a new model, even tho its only a software change.(look now with 3d and 120$ more) .

Yes, the Optoma ML500 or a clone is top of my list as well unless the Qumi's light output really impresses people.

I'll give them 2 more weeks then cancel since it's going to get closer to the 500 Lumen models coming out.

The pictures from the russian website do look promising though. Decent size picture with all of those lights on

Had my head set on the Qumi tbh, so unless there's smth supersonic abt it, I think I'm gonna just wait for the new 500 lumen pjs at this stage. Bye bye Vivitek.

Yep,

As reported by MCaugusto and others in the 500lumen clone thread, All of them are pretty much the same.

Only reason I'm leaning towards the Acer k330 is because its been reported/rumored at $650 and comes out admitting its got "3D". All it seems to be missing is an S-Video input which I care NOT about.

If the rumored specs/pricing are true then the Acer k330 would be my choice over a Qumi.

I'm about to give up and cancel my pre-order, called Best Buy again today and they didn't received any info as to when they might actually have these units in their hands. Although the lady still insists that the local store will have them by the 1st.

If I dont see my unit being shipped out by Thursday, I'm just going to cancel my order.

Aren't the 500lumen projects going to be quite a bit larger/heavier? Presumably one of the main reasons to be interested in Qumi is its small size and portability (and corresponding lower heat and power consumption). It also supports a battery add-on.

I don't think size and portability would be an issue with the qumi or any of the 500 lumen leds. They are all quite small but the qumi is a little bit smaller.

Here are the specs of the qumi: Weight=1.6 pounds; Dimensions: 6.3”(w) x 1.2”(h) x 3.9”(d)
500 lumen clones: Weight=2.5 lbs; Dimensions: 8.7’’(w) x 1.7’’(h) x 6.7’’(d)

The battery add-on might appeal to some users though that need that feature.

Keep in mind that all three 500 lumen LED pjs have the power supply built inside and thus the owner does not have to deal with that rather substantial "power brick" which is connected externally; That could make mounting pjs with external power supply a lot more difficult, especially if you're considering ceiling mount.

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of these new 500 lumen LED pjs are going to sound in the 35db range under "normal" operations due to the over-driven LEDs?

I would also assume that the higher db = higher rpm = shorter fan life.

Granted, it's not much, but it's a slippery slope and I think worth mentioning in a comparison. The portability, pocketable-ness in fact (with big pockets) aspect of Qumi is one of its major selling points, and every ounce can make a difference. Myself, I am more interested in low heat, noise and power consumption and maybe battery life.

It is a good point though that some people make that the power supply is integrated on 500 lumen units.

I totally agree that the noise and heat would make a difference if the qumi is alot less than the 500 lumen led's.
