Review units go to know published reviewers, start a you tube channel or a free blog site and let them know about it and it wouldnt hurt to let them know you post here.

In one of my E-Mails I made a point of saying "I am a nobody" I also said that in fact I do post here and gave them my screen name.

I was kinda shocked to get on the list (even after saying I was a nobody) but then again that e-mail may have been sent to shut me up.

We'll see in April

The Vivitek Qumi projector (pronuounced Q-me) is a 1.6 pound 720p LED 3D-ready projector. For portable projection, you can't really pack more features into a highly portable DLP projector. The projectory dimensions are similar to a Nintendo Wii console, packing 300 lumens of brightness and 2500:1 contrast ratio, along with Mini-HDMI, VGA, and a 1W speaker for those times when you don't have access to an external speaker source. USB and MicroSD slots in the projector mean you can project your media without even needing a computer on hand. At CES 2011, Chris got this demo of the Vivitek Qumi, showing off the small form factor, the portability and powerful features of this diminutive projector. At $499 MSRP, the Qumi is also priced competitively.

I agree the interview was useless! The guy failed to ask any relevant questions outside of the information already available. I've seen this guy before, god knows why he is so popular as a tech blogger!?

yeah i know. but in complete dark room, maybe its still enjoyable. i've had the forever plus 720p lcos led some time ago. it was pretty crappy but surprisingly the stated 70 lumen were bright enough for 60 inch. i dont think i will pay 400 extra but it would be interesting to check out

One thing I am interested in is hows the image quality?
Will it be comparable to a 40 inch LCD Vizio?

I really want a PJ from Vivitek.
Thanks.

DIY beats store purchased.

Why do some people want these projectors when you can get something better for an extra 100? But the Qumi does look cool though lol

if you refering to bulb based alternatives i can give you the answer:

if had an acer ph530... first it gets way to hot until after a while the board gets defective. after 4 repairs the bulb gets down after 300h. with led you get an estimated lifetime of 30k hours. even if the led- or some other part breaks... you have at least 2 year warranty INCLUDING the light source. there are very small and dont produce much heat. then i have to say that the color-reproduction of led projectors is fascinating. of course the dissapearance of big issue named rbe is a big hit too. so all in all the advantages are far of more weight than the disadvantages. 300 lumen is not suitable for rooms without light control, but to be honest... i think movie watching forces a dark room in therms of athmosphere

Yes you are right about the bulb life and image but these small pico projectors would be good for small to medium sized rooms. I think a pico would be good for my room should I get the Acer K11 now or wait for the Vivitek Qumi to come out? When is the release date for the Qumi?

I haven't posted on these forums for years, but I was interested in the Qumi. There's more details on Vivitek's USA web site now:
http://www.vivitekusa.com/v_display_...product_id=201
Throw ratio is 1.55. I'd like to know what the vertical offset is. Interesting that it is 3D ready, but only has a maximum 85 Hz vertical frequency. I wonder what type of 3D signal it takes.

Oh man, the throw ratio is worse than in LG HX300G. And if this machine can't do 120Hz, it's crippled 3D. I had high expectations.

First I gonna say, I've got the HS200G and I can focus the Picture until ~130".
Well the light output is something everyone has to learn to deal with it:
Some hours at the beginning u will need, and then (almost) every PJ can have enough light output.

I couldn't wait for this Unit. Does anyone know, when it will be released in Europe (germany)??

throw ratio 1.55 means for 3m diagonal you have to set the projector at 4,65m ?

I've also just noticed that under projection method it only mentions tripod or table top. I'd want a much lower throw ratio with the projector in front of me.

aimed for 2,5m, but if 3m is still okay in terms of brightness (complete light-controlled room) ... why not

i think a bigger problem could be screen door when projecting a 3m picture and sitting 3m away from screen... even at 720p

Yes, I was reading that also. Does that mean it is not ceiling mountable?

the bigger question is if it will have a function for flip the picture. in this case (even if there are no screw holes for ceiling mount) you can build a mount with a rack. so you just would lay on it the other way round. i cant remember a pico/pocket with screwholes for ceiling mount.

I think it will have it,even the optoma pt100 has it and it has no mount holes, and that thing is round ,like a turtle on its back.

I am new with this whole "3D ready" projector talk.
Does that mean I could hook it up to lets say gran turismo on PS3 or black ops on xbox 360 which are both 3D ready games and be able to play it in 3D? Or a 3D movie like Monsters vs Aliens...?

My room is pitch black so brightness should be ok. Do u need to buy special glasses? does it come with at least one? where would i get glasses for this/?

I would be using Xbox for the 3D gaming, Maybe a ps3 someday since it plays 3D games and movies now.

I also found this interesting review from http://www.cybertheater.com/vivitek-...i-at-ces-2011/

Vivitek is no stranger to projectors, such as the H9080FD and the H1080FD. At CES 2011 this year, they unveiled the Qumi.

The Qumi is part of a new line of the company's LED-based projectors, and weighs in at 1.6 pounds. It is also the first pocket projector to be 3D ready with Texas Instruments DLP Link technology. It is definitely ready for work or play, and good for sharing digital content.

Speaking of 3D, Vivitek told me that they had perfected 2D to 3D conversion, so you can watch a 2D film in 3D, provided you're wearing the glasses. Personally, I think they might have been boasting a little too much.

It should be available in May 2011 for an estimated price of $499.00(USD). Key features and specifications are after the jump.

i am very intersted in the 3D. I just want to be able to put in a 3D movie or game, put my glasses on and enjoy.
