I thought this projector was quoted to start out at $500.00 MSRP thats not what they got it here for. Any clue if its just Best Buy or are they all going to start out like that.

At $/€ 800,- it isn't going to be interesting, might aswell get an LG, that does have a case that isn't as cramped as the Vivitek, running less chance to overheat. Or wait for the budgetking ACER, and see if that lives up to its promise.

I thought the same thing when i saw that $800 at least the LG have been proven to work and no malfunctioning complaints from buyers so far. with the qumi nothing has been proven yet.

LG was my first choice then i held off cause numerous sources were saying $500 around may . Ill give it to may then ill decide to get the LG or wait to see if any more info comes up on that ACER.

Oy oy oy!

Is it possible that Best Buy and Vivitek are conducting some kind of initial market test with that WAY-off-the-mark high price? If so, I hope they are reading this...

I've been "grassy knolling" around here since the LG hs201 started to show that LED's had potential as low budget, low maintenance entry level projectors for us poor folk.

Like hundreds of others here who may not be posting, I WILL be buying a LED unit VERY SOON for my humble man-cave.

The Contenders so far are:

1. LG HW300T =

It CLAIMS to have a Tuner, Broadband (ASSuming that means 10/100 LAN) , Wireless DLNA and proven lineage.

2. CASIO XJ-A240 =

"Its sooo Bright." - EAT MEAT. (Eat Meat posts awesome info, so nuff said.)

Vivitek Qumi:

This has the potential to be the ipod of little projectors. 3D or not, at $499, I really want to like it. At $800, as Borat would say... "eh, Not so much".

ACER 500 lumen LED Scooby Doo mystery machine:

*COUGH*vaporware*COUGH* Seriously Acer throw me a bone here, will it have hdmi, is it in color?

I have been waiting years to watch KEWL GUY STUFF on a 80+ inch screen in my dark little nook away from the crying kids. 720p, L.E.D. AND UNDER us$1000 will do.

Features vs price will decide the winner for me.

Price yourselves accordingly Boys and Let's see some Hardware already!

Mr.Fresnel:

- My First "projector" was a $5 dollar Fresnel lens taped to a 13inch tv. which projected a NEGATIVE 50 lumens image. Anything above that will be like being at a real movie to me.

Your plans are not inspiring. You will get upgrade bug 2 weeks after startup of this 80" screen idea.

I am on my 3rd PJ looking for #4. I have a 119" diagonal and should have done the 135" like I first envisioned. I have 7.1 surround, LFE shakers in all risers and stadium type seating. Next adventure is 3D LED PJ but I am getting tired of waiting. Might have to go with LED at a later time.

I recommend you go with the widest screen your room can handle ... if not wider than 100" you need a bigger room!

Good news Isaac!

I'll be doing a demo of the Qumi, and at this point I think the only other thing I'd be interested in is something like this rumored Acer, but there still doesn't seem to be any info right?

Are there any other companies besides Acer that are using the new TI chip and have info out about their product? The Qumi isn't using that same new chip correct, or is it but lumen wise it will just be less?

Cool thanks. I have it on my calendar to call Douglas with Vivitek April 5th to see where they're at with the Qumi.

I would like to hear more about this Acer or anything else rumored to be good, but I'm on a timeline since my Proxima's bulb replacement notification recently kicked in.

Simillar with the new 4K chips that we're a tad delayed, but the new Barco's and Christies (and NECs?) are currently being installed in theaters under those large framework agreements.

LG told me April, haven't asked Vivitek Europe, as the Qumi escaped my attention, though I did see it next to a large blend.

I'm supposed to call Vivitek April 5 to see where they're at with the Qumi and at some point do a demo of the unit to see if it would work for my purposes. Whether the demo will be at the beginning of April I'm not sure.

Nice. Do you plan on doing a full review and posting results here? I am really interested to know if it will work for home theater with no ambient light at around 90 inches.

Guys, you can all relax >>> Concerning this $800 price for the Qumi at BestBuy, have you googled "Vivitek Qumi LED projector" recently ?
There's a very well-known store in NYC (B&...) that's taking preorders for the pj for $489; I imagine the other $11 goes for shipping....

Yeah, that's about what my situation's like. I'll let you know what I think and I'll try to take some video too.

The rep at Vivitek seemed to think it would be ok, and it was awhile ago but I think he said they were still tweaking the Qumi before release.

Just in case this was missed, Vivitek replied to someone on Facebook that

"The Qumi will operate at 120Hz for 2D, and also at 120Hz for 3D. 3D will be DLP-Link only, and will not have NVidia 3D Vision built-in.

Hope this clarifies! Thanks!"

So apparently the 85hz spec on projector central is not correct.

Interested to see the actual ansi lumens on this. IMO 3d is still a pipe dream on anything larger than a 40 inch screen.

Sometimes when you pre-order the item is delivered to your doorstep on release day. I would consider myself lucky to find one of these on a shelf in my area on release day.

I just spoke with Douglas from Vivitek. The Qumi demo units should be available soon, so I'll go in to do a demo when he gets back to me.

He mentioned that the demo units will be final spec although they'll be ready before the wider release.
