subscribed to this thread. I have the acer 5360 and would love a comparison of the two. When I get a chance I may read the manual on it

So you're sensitive to DLP rainbow but this projection doesn't bother you? Just want to be certain this is what you're saying. ProjectorCentral.com lists this projector as having a 6 color wheel, maybe why it doesn't bother you? Thanks.

FYI - I ran across this Acer support page that offers a cure for the auto shutdown that may affect this model.

I got my Acer7531d from Tiger Direct two weeks ago and had to send it back.
I'm very sensitive to the rainbow effect and this thing made me noxious reading the bright white text against the dark background in "The Mummy" on Blu-ray. I'm upgrading from a Benq PE8700 and had never seen this rainbow effect with it. Now, the Benq has a 6 segment/5x color wheel and I believe the Acer is a 6 segment/2x color wheel, is that true? Please don't get me wrong the Acer is a great little PJ for the price and has a lot of nice features, like a setting just for the "wall color" if that is what your going to be shining it on, that's just sweet...... I love Acer and only buy their laptops and will be getting their Android Tablet very soon, but I would recommended viewing something like The Mummy on one before you buy it just to see if you're bothered by it's slow color wheel. I ended up getting the Epson 8350 and love it. I wanted to stay with DLP but no one states the speed of their color wheel and I can't keep sending PJ's back. Just a thought.

Sorry the 7531 didn't work out for you. The color wheel is faster than 2X. Just put
on the same movie the Mummy in bluray and no rainbows for me on that the dark scene your talking about. I have yet to see a rainbow but
as I stated must not be sensitive but did see them when I owned a Dwin
dlp but that was some years ago.

The 7531 has better black level and shadow detail and the color management sytem is better. Calibrate's to a higher lumen output
while maintaining color accuracy, black level, shadow detail.

If you get a chance look into the Smooth Video Project for movie
playback. You won't be disapointed
http://www.svp-team.com/wiki/Main_Page

Have taken the 7531 with SVP to another level.

Using an I2600K OC 4.5,AsRock Pro 67,Nvidia GTX460 and CoreAvc 2.51.

Wish I could post screenshot's of how good my PQ is but my camera
can't even come close to what I see on the screen. Did a shootout with
a Anthem LTX 300 Lcos projector and Anthem bluray player vs the 7531
and my Htpc setup and the Acer won hands down at a fraction of the price. The only aspect was black levels were a little better on the Anthem
but the 7531 won in all other aspects.

Proccesing is the key to take a budget projector and compete against
the big boy's. My setup with 7531,HTPC,HP 2.4 screen 2500.00. If you
are building an Htpc don't skimp on the processor for multithreading.

I agree, I wish I wasn't so sensitive to its RBE, it's a nice little PJ for the price.
Do you know the speed of it's color wheel?

3x SPEED 6 SEGEMENT THE 5360 WAS 2X IN 3D AND 3X IN 2D. I knew that
if I didn't see rainbows on the 5360 I would be fine with the 7531D.

For any current users how far away do you have the projector mounted? Can the built in speaker be disabled and what kind of screen? Thanks

Which screen are you using with this projector?

greg1292: did I see somewhere that you used a Black Diamond screen with this projector? If so, can you share which BD you used (generation 1, 2 or 3 and .8 or 1.4), what size, and the pros/cons with this screen? Did you use eco mode or standard mode on the projector?

Thanks, Dave

Sparkle,
What have you learned about the 8200 in terms of PQ? I've read the AVs, but nothing else.

Waiting for our man greg. I am debating between this and the HC4000.

I've only learned what I've read from these forums. I'm concerned that the 8200 is "still" snake-bit by firmware issues. I'm convinced the picture is sharp and bright but may have issues dialing in color accuracy. The 7531 is a little more vague to me in it's performance capability. I love that its suggested to perform above the 8350 but hoped other owners would post their thoughts about it specifically targeting against other projectors they've had/seen. Not sure of its color accuracy/noise although I get the impression that their configuration options are robust. Almost bought the 8200 but the last post their put a pause in my 'buy it now' button. OY.

This WON"T help your decision---

I read a great post in the "how long does your projector last" thread.

The guy said, "I've bought many projectors and I've learned that I will only buy a projector thats been vetted by AVS for 6 months." check out the thread and you'll see peoples regrets and good decisions and what they think.

These new units ARE speculative...

Sorry I have been playing around with linux programs.

To answer some of your questions at 799.00 this projector is hard to beat.
I have 350 hours on mine and couldn't be happier. I sell projectors for a
living over 20 years experience and have already posted the differences
with projectors I have owned or sold in the past.

I will be going with the black diamond 2.7 since I don't need better black
levels and want even more pop The 1.4 is a great screen but I have
total light control and a totally blacked out room. The only reason to
buy an epson 8350 is for lens shift or conveience. As for the mits a nice
projector but not worth the extra money.

Just got done comparing to a 5000.00 Runco on the BD 1.4 screen and
except for blacks and some sharpness differences not worth the extra money.

I sometimes think that we forget to enjoy the video and worry about
what other people think. If you want a great picture, cheap lamp replacement
and can mount the projector with in specs and not sensitive to raibows
and god I look for them but can't see them then buy the 7531.

At 799.00 what's to think about

No but does have medium auto setting that
Works great! Anyone know how to get into the
Service menu? Maybe there is an adjustment.
Even though I am happy with medium iris setting.
Would be fun to play.

A lot better that terminology thru me for a loop. 5360 just plain bad!
No longer bothers me. That was one of the reasons I no longer
have the 5360. I do notice it sometimes but on a much smaller scale.
