I am looking for an entry-level home theater projektor (budget ~1000). After reading reviews and browsing this forum i settled on the benq w1000+ because it offers more brightness than other pj in this price range (i want to watch sports and some tv shows with some ambient light). Then i came across the w1100.
Now i am trying to find some information on the w1100. Does it offer a better picture then the w1000+? Or am i paying extra for features i dont really need like better speakers?

I am wondering the same. So far I haven't been able to find any reviews about it since it is still quite new. Looking to upgrade from my Mits HD1000U (still going strong at 3800+ hours on the first bulb). I was considering the BenQ W1000+ because of, among other things, its high brightness in brightest mode. My only concern with the 1100 would be that since it has a 4x colour wheel the brightness may drop somewhat, but probably not significantly? If any body has received a W1100 and could post your impressions that'd be great!

Hi guys. First time posting here.

I have just purchased this projector on behalf of a friend for his first "big screen". I had to set up his entire surround setup over last weekend and as a result I have not had a chance to callibrate the system - this weekend's job. Initial impressions so far are that this projector has some really great aspects. Colour out of the box appears quite good with excellent depth to the picture. The picture is also very sharp (as is to be expected from BenQ). I have recently upgraded to the BenQ 6000 from an Optoma Hd71. The 6000 is obviously in anotherleague, but compared to the 720p Optoma (which also another light cannon at 2400 limens) the w1100 is quite spectacular. Ability to cut through the ambient light is almost on par with the optima, however the sharpness and realism of the w1100 picture appears much better to me. I endeavor to post an update not my thought after callibrating the system this weekend, however at this stage as far as an "entry level" projector goes, I am very impressed.

Looking forward to your update - this could be the first "review" of the W1100 on the internet, so no pressure

I'd really appreciate if you could comment on:
- rainbow effect (if any)
- how much ambient light can be present
- the integrated speakers - are they useable?
- color quality and black levels ("out of the box" vs calibration)

Thanks!

W1100

Just read through the manual. It seems pretty good for the price. Nice and bright, but like the w1000, no lens shift It does appear to scale for CIH though

I love my Constant Image Height system!

Lansen,

The W1200 is currently expected to arrive into the US on April 20, and shipped off to our partners from there. I believe Amazon has tied up the first batch of inventory coming off the boat, so I'd expect it will be for shipping by early May over there.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your answer Niel.

I know you work for BENQ America Corp but your answer gives a hint even for me, living in Europe (Sweden). Perhaps you might know when we could see the W1200 over here? The W1100 have been on the shelfs for a couple of weeks now but we have not seen any reviews and no places where we could have a look at it.

Have you seen both W1100 and W1200 in action?
If so could you describe the difference between them and not just the difference in spec.

I am also interested to know if we could expect the noise from the fan to be so so low as specification says.

Thanks!

One site claims the 1200 is a 3d projector as well. Is this true?

i dont think thats correct. the 1200 only has about a $200 cost premium on it (at least thats what i saw a while back). plus it has 200 less lumens which would indicate it is not 3d. but then again ive been wrong lots of times, just ask the wife.

The W1200 won't be 3D ready, it's a mistake on aboutprojector website.

So I am looking to buy BenQ again. Wondering which way to go. The W1200 seems o.k. but missing HDMI 1.4a is a bummer and so is missing a BenQ 720p or 1080p with LED source.

I am going to add this projector to my short list which so far has only the Mit HC4000. What interests me is it has a 1.5:1 zoom just like the HC4000. It's rated brighter and quieter. Also, it comes with built-in speakers.

the firmware is raw. the projector "froze" a few times during a week of home use after i pressed certain (not sure which yet) buttons. After this the projector keeps working and throwing picture but doesnt react to any commands so only 2 ways to switch it off is unplugging (didnt try) or by holding the power button for ~4 seconds after which action the lamp cooler doesnt start power cooling as it would do in normal operation. It is still blowing for about a minute but on low rpm.

The quality of picture is good.

Neil_BENQ

Can you confirm 4x color wheel for w1100?

Just found out it has a sleep timer. This feature is nice to have for me, as I watch movies while lying in bed and fall asleep sometimes. Can't wait for some professional reviews. Now its' between the Mit HC4000 and Benq W1100.

The more I read about the W1100 the more I like it. There is an audio output in the back that can be connected to powered speakers or (headphones?). This means I can hook up my headphones to the projector when watching movies at nights to avoiding disturbing others. That means I can save electricity by not having to turn on the receiver. These features make this projector the most versatile low-cost DLP projector I have seen:

1. 10w SRS speakers

2. Sleep timer

3. Self-cooling

4. Audio input/output

5. 2000lm

Somebody please review the W110.

If I am correct, this is one noisy projector.

If I am correct, this is one noisy projector.

I believe they were at 50cm which is pretty close. Most sound measurements are at 1 meter or about twice the distance they used.

Thsi can make the reading quite high.

That is correct. We take our noise measurements at 50cm.
