I'm love'n the pj, but have run into some odd issue.
As someone mentioned before in this thread, I too am sometimes unable to access basic and advanced picture adjustments - for me it's via HDMI to my cable box. All is good with my Blu ray and HD DVD player, but it's all greyed out with the cable box - and, regardless if Brilliant Color is on or off. Any thoughts?

I last posted here about six months ago. It's been six months of enjoyment of my W1100. Mine is the original version with the quirky firmware. The projector wants to stay in "normal" or "high" from time to time, upon start-up. To prevent this, I check and set it to "Eco" if needed. This is a minor issue for me. I don't intend to send it back for a firmware update.

I use it everyday (many times twice a day) to watch mostly recorded TV shows. It has almost 900hrs on it. I think I got my money back when it hit 200hrs. You see 200hrs are the equivalent of about 100 movies. At $10 a ticket, it would cost $1,000 to watch 100 movies at the movie theater.

Just got my w1200 and I'm having an issue with the fans speeding up significantly when I switch to celing mounted in the menus under projector position. I'm running in eco mode. When I have the setting at floor position it's nearly silent. Haven't read about this anewhere on the net. Could someone with w1200 or w1100 verify if their does the same, please?

I haven't done any major calibration at all actually. Just tweaked a few basic settings like color, tint and sharpness - using the standard color temp. I'm thinking I might get it professionally calibrated once I'm between 100 and 200 hours.
Here's a couple more pics - from Discovery World HD tonight.

Just pulled the trigger on the W1200... there was a pretty good sale online today. My first PJ in 2004 was the BenQ PE7800 (1024x576). DLP and 1000 lumens. Nice and bright for my 110" screen, but after 1 year it was on the dim side. I figure the W1200 should give me the video calibrated lumens out of the box (after I calibrate it or course), with lumens to spare when the bulb ages.

I am surprised that there is not much more interest in the W1100/W1200... from all the reviews, it sounds like a nice projector when compared to the competition.

Anyway, congrats to me

Oh yeah, what ceiling mount are you guys using? Anyone make a DYI like n Monkey_Man's thread?

Just set up my new W1200; a bit more fan noise than the Mits HC1600 it replaced, even on ECO mode.

Clarity is stunning, but as many have posted, calibration is a MUST. Just playing with settings can make an obvious improvement from OTB settings.

Strange behavior when stopping a blu-ray; pj seems to cycle through inputs until it comes back to the BD player; hard to explain, but my Mits did not do it.

Unfortunately, I think I have a bad unit. Just a few minutes after setup, a shrill whine started coming from the projector. Not coming from the fan, I think it might be the color wheel. After about 30 mins, the sound stopped and hasn't returned after 3 additional hours of use.

Anyone have any experiences to say I should keep it and the whine won't come back? Purchased from Amazon and I was NOT impressed with the shipping packaging.

Mine does the 'signal cycle' thing with Blu Ray sometimes as well. But, it always does lock on to the signal. I'm running a 50 foot HDMI cable and just figured that's why.
Not sure about that whine though.

Have any of you that own this projector done any gaming with it? I have read at a couple of places on the web that it has pretty severe gaming lag. Have any of you experienced this issue?

The consensus says it's not the best for gaming lag, but it does everything else really well. However, in many games most of you won't notice the difference, for those hardcore FPS gamers... Fuhget About it...

I recommend this projector as the Mits hc4000 alternative when someone needs more brightness, because the projectors perform very similary, the Mits has less lag, but the Benq is brighter. The Mits has better OTB color, but the Benq calibrates just as well.

I Haven't found any calibration settings, could you guys share some of yours?
I have mine since Sept, but I don't use it too much. It's attached to an Onkyo SR-875 with an Cat5e/6 HDMI transmitter with 7m cables. It runs well, as far I can see with my HDTV Box and my Media Center XtreamerPro. It does the cycle when I stop/restart, also does some color adjustment. Also, I've noticed a 'noise' when I mounted it on the ceiling, but now it doesn't do it anymore. I've around 30Hrs of use on mine. I'm using factory preset settings, I'm using 'Cinema'/'Standard' modes whenever I like the settings. So any thoughts would be much appreciated from you.
Much appreciated.

Regards.

As indicated in my post above, the internal whine went away within the first hour of use. Unfortunately now I'm seeing a new problem. 1080p source materials causing an obvious lag. I'd read that gaming would cause this with this pj but I never expected it from the playback of blu-rays. Both my players are causing the same result, though they work perfectly with my other HD TVs. At 60fps, the pj can't keep up during action sequences. At 24fps there is jutter every few seconds. Some movies are worse than others, but I don't think it is a disc issue as much as a motion issue. 720p content from Netflix and AppleTV is flawless... same as on my 720p pj. I upgraded specifically for blu-ray content, but it seems this pj can't deliver.

Any suggestions before I try to send it back?

Suggestions as to which pj will overcome this? Thinking either Mits HC4000 or BenQ w6000.

I think I read a review somewhere that complained about the Frame Interpolation circuit. Try turning it off. I had my PJ on for a short time today... tried a clip of Iron Man in Blu Ray. I did not see anything obvious, but then again, I was just checking it out the PJ. I ceiling mount it tomorrow.

I have an HTPC driving my W1200 (firmware version 1.02). Connection is HDMI. Core i3 onboard graphics - output to PJ is 1080p @ 60 fps.

Well, I turned on my W1200 again tonight and this time I watched it closely. Movie was Iron Man - straight BD rip (i.e. 1080p with no additional compression). I did detect judder in the opening Paramount scene (flying stars). Also, there was some judder a few minutes later when the HumVees were rolling along to the AC/DC sound track. There was judder on slow moving scenes too. Judder is intermittent and not reproducibale on the same scenes (except the flying stars).

I have the same Iron Man BD ripped to a 1280x720. I saw the same judder with the flying stars while playing the 720p version.

Frame Interpolation (FI) was set to medium by default, and that's how I left it when I watched the movies above. Then I turned FI off... much, much better. Although I still did see judder with the flying stars though - on both the 1080p and 720p rips.

My HTPC's LCD/LED display (fed via HDMI) displayed no judder.

With FI off, the PJ looks pretty good. And the only real judder that I noticed was with the Paramount flying stars. I downloaded firmware 1.04 and will load that before I make a final decision about returning the PJ.

Thank you.

I've tried this settings and got a very 'Bad' image, but I live in Europe and probably these are for US, or, I didn't do it well.
Those anyone knows the pwd for entering the ISF menu? ( I didn't google it, yet)

Again many thanks, and hope someone can bring some more settings.

Regards.

I have Win 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. Once the driver installation begins, it almost immediately terminates, and states that a file cannot be found. I attached the USB driver files that were part of the firmware 1.0.4 download (linked elsewhere in this thread).

Anyone try and succeed to install the USB driver?

Its hard to follow that exchange above about the firmware, but the way I read the posts, they seem to indicate that the link is expressly for the 1100 and not the 1200. I could be reading it wrong.

Ye, it was... but I navigated up a few folders, and saw the W1200 folder.

ftp://62.141.76.120/Driver/Projectors/w1200/

Same user name and password that was posted previously.

Anyway, does the W1200 look better with FI off? I finally ceiling mounted mine tonight. At 110" is pretty nice OTB with user 3 (cinema). The reviews made it sound horrible, but it's not as bad as they stated. Granted, I still have to calibrate it.

However, I do see some judder (or lagging) even with FI off.

-T

EDIT:
This post discusses how 1.04 cuts lag down to 25 ms.

Good clarification on the firmware. Yeah, color was off on mine OTB but not that bad. Some movies look great at 24 FPS with no FI (even the action scenes in I, Robot are perfect and smooth). With FI on, I, Robot looks almost 3D with NO judder even in actions shots!. However, Voyage of the Dawn Treader is unwatchable at 24 fps due to jerking and also a band of distortion at the bottom of the screen (this band appears on every "16x9" movie I've tried; it may be there when letter boxing 2.35:1 movies, but the black doesn't show it). At 60 fps it seems like the projector can't keep up with the movement, even slow movement. Still scenes are breathtaking, but the strobe is just too much during movement. Maybe it is all firmware issues...

Recently I've been running my Panasonic BD30 blu ray player @1080p 60 to the pj, and I find movies with FI on low great!!
Much better than with running FI on low at 24fps.
