Thank you for correcting my misunderstanding. I guess I won't send it back after all, then.

Too bad! I hoped for subframes. Looks like these projectors behave just like an LCD then, even though with custom rear projection screen, 120hz could be used for wobulation .

no release date found. other articles speculated that 500 lumens leds might hit Chinese market in August 2011

Contrast ratio 4000:1 Nice. From what it says, it sounds good.

But I think I prefer the prototype black color...

I've been itching to pull the trigger on a pj since the start of the year (!). Now, like a few posters hv already mentioned, I'm gonna wait for all of these clones to be released and tested a bit before I pull the trigger. This hopefully will be done sometime before xmas (this year). It's gonna be and gonna feel like a long long wait still.

Guys, remember that Viewsonic, Acer and Optoma have already stated that the USA pricing for these projectors will be $700 and i for one have no doubt about it.
Last year when i bought my LG HX-300G i first saw it at ebay, shipped from Hong Kong, for almost $1,000; By the time i got it from a USA dealer the msrp was around $750 and i got it discounted for less than that amount.
Wait until late September/October and we'll all be able to get any of them for $700, although i imagine that to find them much discounted from that might be difficult at first.

Let's hope Acer, View Sonic, and Optoma has a price war and we can get it under $ 599 or less.

I got mine at over $ 700 and I hope I can sell it and still manage to get half the price I paid for it.

those are all(3 clones) coming out of the same factory-optomas parent company is making them all.I dont see why lumens or contrast will be different.

So the brightness is about the same as the qumi, but just more expensive?

Well from the same website, the Acer is a good bit brighter than the Qumi. And beats it in every other department for that matter.

I don't see why these projectors can't be easily auto dimmed for better contrast numbers like the more expensive LED PJs. To me it seem like it would be just a software change.

You are confusing marketing double speak with actual measured data and calibrated numbers. 294 calibrated is actually very decent, as is 2300 CR. Just a few yrs ago it would have cost thousands, and the bulb would drop well below the measured lumen rating after 100 hrs. This unit should look substantially brighter than the qumi, and some would argue that it looks brighter than a lamp based unit with the same measured output.

It may be because each manufacturer would have to program the settings for the LEDs, and to make the process seamless would take a lot of work. I have yet to see a dynamic iris that is totally seamless, and I'm talking about units that cost thousands of dollars. If I understand it correctly, it is not just a dimming process, but there is speed consideration, when and how to do it (i.e. what light appears in the scene, e.g. stars vs a slight crack on a door), gama, and so on.
