I wouldn't rush out and get the ViewSonic just based on the extremely dubious claims of ViewSonic sales reps, especially not when they've been shown to post absolute nonsense on their site (now updated to remove all their made up claims) and the manual and specifications say nothing about it. There is a very good chance that anything they say is just lies.

I'd at least wait to get things verified by a third party.

Good point.

I am going to replace my Optoma ML-500 - which I am happy with overall, but the menu is a bit quirky; I can't see all of the adjustments all the time, and the settings don't save after I turn it off (sometimes). If the viewsonic - at the very least - equals the ml-500, its a keeper for me - with the longer warranty and better remote.

I can also confirm that the severe start up focus issue that I had with my ML-500 is so minor on the W500 that it is practically nonexistent. The fan layout seems to be the same, with a hot exhaust port right next to the lens. So why no start up focus problems? Maybe it runs cooler or has a better quality lens.

What the hell is wrong with these big companies , why cant they just get it RIGHT ? always some sort of fatal flaw in the design of the product that is never corrected. Stupid Viewsonic and LG ..the 2 companies i was looking into for portable projection are the ones who messed up the most.

looks like LG HW300G is out of the question and is the Viewsonic aswell , fed up these companies messing up.

Hi travis

Well its mainly the fan sound , im goign to use this projector in a small room , so if thw fan sound is loud and distracting , it will spoil anything im watching. I wish someone can post a video of this projector in quite room , so we can hear just the fan working, no other sounds but the fan in operation. Hope someone can do this..cheers

You can always use a HDMI switcher with Toslink connections to a receiver for home use. I'm not so sure that you couldn't use portable USB speakers for added sound as well.

I received an email from a tech rep confirming compatibility with the VP3D1, he said he physically hooked one up himself and varified 3D functionality.

For some reason, I'm still a lil skeptical and would love to see end-user comfirmation.

I'd like to add that each time I've called the Viewsonic reps, once I got thru the automated directory protocal, the phone was answered promptly and you couldn't ask for nicer more helpful people. Each email was promptly answered as well.

I'd still like to see more user reviews about noise, focus, CA, screen sizes, etc.. as well as some pics posted, before I buy. Any 3D reviews would be a plus as well.

BTW, with the projector running hit power, left, left, menu to access the service menu. Use menu to select submenus.

Take pics or write down settings before doing anything.

Disclaimer: access at your own risk!

I sit about 3 ft from this projector (in a living room) - with the LED mode on ECO. Once my surround system is on (even at a night-time low volume level) the fan is not audible. In comparison, I have a PS3 (fat), which is louder than the projector.

That being said - I have 2 loud USB fans in my A/V cabinet, and an air filter in the room, as well as a HTPC running - so I am surrounded by noise (none of which distracts me when I watch a movie).

The normal LED mode is louder - and is audible in quieter movie scenes.

I will try to do a video tonight with only the projector on.

On a side-note, the contrast seems to be better than the ml-500 which I owned for 3 weeks; based on watching 2 movies. The picture does seem sharper as well (these are not side by side comparisons - just going by memory).

Hi jumbi

look forward to the video of just the projector working , if possible could you then do just a vidoeo of the internal speakers playing? whatever you can do my friend is most welcomed.

lastly , i dont know if you have been following the LG HW300G situation, but it has a serious 16:10 Stretching issue, so far unresolved by LG. Doe the Viewsonic have any Stretching issues, doe it increase all videos to 16:10 via HDMI ?

Can owners of the Viewsonic confirm if there's any light leakage with this unit?

The Acer K330 doesn't have any such issues, so the Viewsonic won't either. It's the same projector. The only downside with playing 16:9 is that you'll get a black border at the top and bottom, and since black isn't all that black on these projectors it's fairly visible.

Will try to upload tonight - my first attempt failed due to "copyright" issues (it was my very first you tube upload). I had to redo. Also, the first one I made did not include the projector speakers being on - as you requested; this one does.

I set the Aspect Ratio to 16:9 - this works fine for me. When I switch sources (HDMI video switcher), the picture briefly stretches to 16:10, but reverts to 16:9.

Visually, I don't see any (don't know how to measure this).

for me the biggest issue would be very visible chromatic abberation and focus drift. So some owners who can take a close-up picture of white crosses on black background out there? would be very very helpful.

Hold the projector close to a wall so you get a small image. If you see a thick line of light below the projected image, then it's just like all the other clones.

Hi jumbi

Cool Video of the viewsonic. I think the internal speakers are ok for me , i want to use this in bedroom , its like 2 mtrs by 3 mtrs. Ok not the biggest of rooms but the sound should be ok and i dont think the fans will bother me , if i stick to eco mode. Just what screen size would i get if i project from 2 mtrs ? i dont have a draper screen , just projecting onto a white wall.

any problems or issues so far ? what about heat issues ?

more vidoes please your a STAR

ive seen this projector online for $665 , so technically we in uk shouldbe able to purchase this for like £400 , but as always we pay higher price for the exact same goods in other countries , lowest price i found was £502 .. £100 excess, im going to try and negiotate a discount.

That makes no sense. You don't live in the US, so no, technically you shouldn't. No one is going to give you a £100 discount just because you don't like the price levels in your country.

HI HenryDudley

Thanks for reply , as for the £100 discount..never say never dont ask you dont get. Ill tell you if i get discount of not, With the recesssion in place, Consumers have more purchasing power than before, companies need the business. I for one have never paid the stated price , always have gotten a discount...doesnt make sense to you , but makes sense to me.

I hope you get it! Yes, companies need business, but they also need to make a profit. The reason prices are higher on this side of the atlantic is not just because businesses are more greedy.
