Doesn't get said nearly enough here, but thank you to everyone who posts here. The flow of information here has helped me with every (HDTV era) HT purchase I've ever made, and it's fun when I can share too.

Much appreciated, as always!

Agreed. Mine shipped today and i should have it by Wednesday.
Everyone here has been great.

When you guys mount them, you may want to check out this link from Coderguy

http://www.eliteprojectorcalculator.com

I found it to be very helpful. I also found having the center of the lens about 2-3 inches above the top of the viewable area of the screen worked well (ceiling mount.....can't speak for other mounting techniques). There isn't a lot of play with regard to horizontal shift so the closer the center of the lens is to the center of the screen, the better. As far as distance from the screen, I think 14.5 to 15 feet for a 120 inch screen is ideal. Again, check out the calculator, I found it to be spot on.

Just ordered 2 pairs of the Sainsonics. This way we can all watch 3-d this weekend. When the acers are back at td I might get some if the Sainsonics are noticeably worse. Then just keep those for company.

Edit:

Just saw that TD has the acer glasses so I ordered 2 pair. Tried to cancel the sains from amazon but less than 15 minutes after ordering it they can't guarantee the order being cancelled so I'm just going to let them come. That will give us 5 glasses total. Three of us here in the fam so we'll keep the sains for company

Thanks! But I don't ceiling mount, I have a rear (around 5.5 feet up, I think) shelf mount. Very easy for adjusting and stuff. Coming from a Panny AE-1000u, the only thing that's going to be slightly more painful is that the Acer has manual zoom and manual focus, while the Panny had a powered zoom and powered focus. Makes a difference as I switch between 2.4:1 and 16:9 (I don't use an anamorphic lens, I just zoom and lens shift back and forth). BUT one of the other PJ's I was considering was the 8700UB, which also has a manual zoom and I think manual focus.

Not that big of a deal, all I know is that Christmas comes tomorrow!

I hope you realize that the 9500 must be above or below the screen despite the lens shift which is very limited. If you are on this then disregard. If not, prepare to be disappointed.

I have factored this in, and if I like it but-for this issue, I have other placement options. Thanks.

For ceiling mounting, I consider the offset a plus. Keeps the projector nearer the ceiling and/or the screen closer to the floor.

Hi Folks!

Im looking to upgrade from a Acer H5360BD to the H9500BD and was wondering if anyone followed this path or have experience with both units if the specification are the same for both when it comes to the colour wheel?

I find the h5360BD a great little unit but I just want to move up to 1080p.
RBE is ONLY an issue for me if I either go looking for it or for example Tron in 2D.

So are they the same? if so Im pretty much sold on this one! just working my way through the pages of this Thread

Anybody using XBMC through it? is it nice at 1080p?

Cheers,
nick.

I do too. I'm in the process of putting in some seating in front of where we normally sit (at about 16') so I can have my face stuck in the screen (figuratively speaking). With the 3d blu ray, I can't see any pixels at the closer distance. The offset allows me to do this with little or no keystone issues.

Sincerely,

The guy sitting closer to the screen than anyone else in the movie theater

Well the pj was just delivered. NOT double boxed, box beat up and all 3 seals broken! It says on seals, if seal is broken, please inspect contents before accepting delivery. Seems ok but I'm at work and can't do much with it. UPS in NYC really DOES bang stuff up so it might be fine.
I really hope they didn't send me a returned unit.

Seems ok. Doesn't appear that the remote or manual was touched or even opened so I think I'm ok. Guess I have to check the hours usage meter when I get home

Being from Los Angeles, I was going to make a snide comment about NYC

The only problem is that I got a box with the front seal broken (though you couldn't tell from just looking at it because the flap was hanging over the side of the box) and the top tapes had been lifted and reapplied. The really messed up part was that the power cord and glasses were gone!!!

Acer, thankfully, replaced them as soon as they got them in stock. I don't know if it was an Acer, Tigerdirect, or a UPS person who deserves to get the snot knocked out of them, but you can imagine I was none too happy. I didn't care about the power cord because I work in the computer networking industry and those things multiply like rodents.

Oh well....that's all in the past....

I think Tigerdirect is the one we should go to. Where they go from there is Tg's lookout.. But oh well...

Just an FYI for anyone interested, I ordered 2 pairs of acer 3D glasses from tiger direct about a week ago (they were out of stock at the time) and got confirmation that they are now in stock and are shipping to me today.
Total was $142.27 for 2 with standard UPS shipping.

I called Tiger first. They didn't have glasses and had no idea when or if they would get them. It actually turned out better than what you would think. Because there was an out of the box problem with the PJ, Tiger shipped me a new one and I was able to use the glasses in the replacement (that's an abbreviated version, but, essentially, true). By the time I returned the problem PJ (with the glasses), the Acer glasses were in stock.

Yeah the pj has been through 3 ups hubs, probably 4 trucks so I am going to give TD the benefit of the doubt for now. I've ordered lots from them in the past and never had a problem. Double boxed the pj should have been though.

And incali, I lived in Cali twice too!

The projector, though not double boxed, is protected pretty well as it's got all that foam around it and is in a case. That being said, some of those gorillas at UPS (not to mention FedEx, USPS, etc.) can to some major damage.....

Good luck with your new projector and let us know how things go. I think you'll like the picture.

Glad to see more folks picking this one up. I use mine 100% for Blu-Ray and TV and am very satisfied. Blu-Ray movies look amazing in both 2D and 3D.

My biggest complaint is definitely the input switching when changing channels via DirecTV. Disabling auto 3D has helped, but it is still annoying. But then I just sit back and watch a movie... The PQ really is great for a sub $1500 projector.

I had a broken seal and was missing a power cord also, but I bought from Newegg. Newegg told me they drop ship this item direct from Acer so Acer is probably sending opened ones out like that.

What kind of a moron would take a $2 power cord that many people have coming out of their ears and not take a pair of glasses they could easily sell on ebay for $60

I'm not advocating stealing, but if you're going to do it, I thought the idea was to get or save money.....people continue to baffle me sometimes.......
