Solid Green Line

I have done lots of searches over the last month but can't find any info on the issue I'm seeing. We have a Epson HC 5010 as our main TV and one night after watching for an hour or so a solid green line came on top to bottom about 1.5 inches from center on the right side of the picture looking at the 92 inch screen. Went into the diag mode to verify it was in the projector and not the projected image. I turned proj off and then back on and it was gone. Now it is starting to happen more often sometimes right at start up and sometimes after watching a while. I'm out of warranty but called epson anyway and all they did was give me the name of a service center. Anyone have an idea of whats going on here and how expensive it may be to fix? Thanks!!

My projector just started doing this grinding noise.
Epson is sending me a refurbished unit since they do not offer repair in Canada.

My question is: how good are refurbished unit from Epson and should I just pay 100$ to have the gear replaced for a metal one in an authorized epson repair center knowing that my unit is out of warranty working perfectly fine except for the grinding noise (only have 1100hrs of use on it)

ProjectorPeople have the Panasonic PT-AE8000U on sale for $1499 now with a free upgrade to a 3-year warranty (instead of the standard 2-years).

If I were in your shoes, I would give serious consideration to taking the refurb, and then immediately selling it with 0 hours on it, and then buying the Panasonic (or something nicer, if you want).

Junk it! I had the same problem with my 5010, except my first line was yellow. In the beginning it came and went just like yours, but after a couple of months it became permanent:

It was about this time that a second magenta-colored line began to make random appearances toward the edge. Both lines appears as solid 8-pixel wide bands that ran completely from top to bottom, exactly as you described.

I was already so frustrated with my overall 5010 experience that I finally threw in the towel and bought the much less expensive BenQ W1070 instead. It was far cheaper than replacing the panels and motherboard (~$1700)

Is a refurbished Epson 6010 worth $949 direct from Epson's store page or is it too dated at this point? Wondering if I should cancel my order for a refurbished Epson 8345 for $550.

Sounds like a bargain to me. For someone with a scope screen I would suggest spending the extra $500 for a Panasonic PT-AE8000u, but if you're running a standard 16:9 screen then I don't see how you could do better for $1000.

Flashing red LEDs WITHOUT grinding noise

I had the grinding noise, flashing red LED issue with cinema filter gear issue with my 6010 in December, had the unit repaired by Epson (no refurb), and have been trouble free until last night. Now I've encountered something similar but I don't think it's the same:

  1. Power on.
  2. Blue light flashes for ~10 sec.
  3. Fan comes on high for ~4 sec.
  4. Both red lights begin flashing and fan stops.
  5. Unit sits indefinitely with red lights flashing until put in standby mode.
What I see as different relative to my previous cinema filter error is no grinding noise (believe this occurred on ever attempted power up previously). Has anyone else seen the above scenario?

Thanks,
DD

I had the grinding noise on my unit as well and after Epson fixed it, I got rid of it. I have Benq HT1075 now and I love it.

Update to flashing red LEDs WITHOUT grinding noise

During the process of taking my Epson 6010 down last night to prepare for sending to Epson (see above post), I tried turning on one last time and it came up normally. I put it back in standby mode, left it for a couple of hours, and turned on again - it came up normally.

The potentially relevant factors I've identified are:

  1. Left unit sitting all day in error state with flashing red LEDs prior to putting back in standby and successfully turning on.
  2. Prior to successfully turning on, I disengaged the mount latch which slightly moved the PJ when it "snapped". Turning the unit on again was actually unintentional - I accidentally hit the button on the side while starting to push the PJ forward in mount.

Re #2 , I noticed that jdblaze resolved flashing red LEDs that occurred during update to v1.10 fw by dropping his PJ from a half inch a few times:

I don't think the amount of movement/impact that me unlocking the PJ mount had was nearly that much, but it may still be the same scenario. I am running v1.10 fw, but it was installed by Epson when they repaired the cinema filter grinding noise issue in Dec 2014.

jdblaze, have you experienced flashing red LEDs or any other problem since your drop fix in May?

Thanks,
DeaconDan
