Do you have any links to the panels you speak of, or is this something I would build? I am not ruling it out just collecting ideas. The wife will not let me paint the ceiling either. It would take some time to move speakers, not to mention my back would be sore.

Thanks

I'm interested in that too. I found these by JLM acoustics.

Of course another solution is a high gain angular reflective screen (not dalite high power.) One of the new curved Silverstars would really transform your experience.

so pretty

I suspect bad lens assembly in epson 5010/6010

We do not know whether to blame some bad import or the problem is in all epson 5010/6010 everywhere.
Is there a single holder, where to have the 5010 without any problem in focus here in avsforum. ?

I have been order my Epson projectors from Visual Apex, never have any focus or blur image issues. I must be the lucky one.

Does anyone know if Epson 5010 can accept 0-255 BTB and WTW ? or does it take 0-255 source and down sample to 16-235 ?

I also bought a 5010. A few days left, and i get it.When the projector comes, I want to test the convergence and sharpness. It will be mount ceiling, instead of Panasonic AE4000,hope to see night and day.
If anyone has photos of convergence, let's compare.

Perhaps next week.
So, if the rest of you dont have blur image with bad focus, i will try for the next piece of 5010. I hope not to late.
The bad thing is, if the new one arrives with problem again, i must waiting again 15-20 days until new order arrives.
Local stores dont have stock at all. We all waiting.

And yes , we make pixel aligment, the problems is still there.

and why would they trade for a JVC X30 which has bad 3D? (flicker+ghosting)

Sounds like a WHOLE WHACK of 5010/6010's might be bad.

Well, after the initial scare, my 5010 behaved like a perfect gentleman all weekend long... On and off probably a half dozen times, and each time without any incident at all.

I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it, so to speak. ;-)

Funny or maybe not funny....

After 30 days of my 6010 mis-behaving on startup - magically this weekend it started working normally.

Meaning no hurricane force fan at startup...

BIZZARE!

Maybe because the projector is so bright in calibrated mode that no one finds the need for it ?

I do. I've had it for several years. It is the original 2.8 gain screen, not the newer one with 2.4 gain. 133" diag. Works very well with the 5010. I couldn't imagine 3D on this size screen with a low gain screen. It would really be dark even in dynamic mode. As you know, however, the HP isn't well suited for use with a ceiling mounted projector. That's the reason most people don't use the HP. (My projector is mounted on an equipment rack in the next room.)

I'm looking at mounting options for my new 5010 and the least obvious location in my living room is shelf mounted above a valence at the back of the room. This would put the lens about 6-7" above the top of the screen and maybe a couple inches off center. I could mount in front of the valence on a shelf which would center the lens, and be about at the top of the screen.....wife might not dig that though. I already got to paint the screen wall near black, so would like to hide the projector if possible. Is that much shift a deal breaker?

Also above that valence is about a 20' throw, in front of the valence is 19'.

I'm a bit curious about fan noise on the 5010 - how loud is it really? Would I hear it if it were 1-2 feet behind my seating and 3 feet above?

What about on high or in 3D mode? I have a very long, but narrow room, and it looks like I'd have to mount it at 17-18 feet which means I would probably need to keep the lamp on high or else it might be too dim.

I have the DaLite High Power screen. Projector is shelf mounted. I watch 2D using the THX mode on ECO. Plenty bright. 3D looks like it has just about perfect brightness with my 2.8 gain screen. Overall, I'm very pleased with the projector / screen combination.

On high if it is a quiet scene, I can hear the fan. It is not super loud, but I can hear it for sure.

As for brightness, what size screen and what gain? That could tell you if econ is going to be ok.

Fan noise really bothers me but the 5010 on eco is not objectionable at all. I almost never hear it except when there is dead silence in a movie and even then, I have to concentrate on it to hear it. It is about 5 feet about my head on a high shelf attached to my ceiling.

My wife is happy that I am no longer complaining about projector fan noise.

I run it on living room at 157" image size and almost max zoom at a 15 ft 5 inch throw distance.

I have also tried dynamic and eco (fan too loud) and living room and normal (fan too loud). Living room and eco is perfect for my application ans noise tolerance. Cinema and eco is too dim for me but is completely silent from my main listening position.

Considering a 126" or 134" 16:9 AT screen with a gain of about 1.1. Using one of the calculator links I found here I calculated about 10 FLs in ECO mode after 500 hours. That actually seems OK. My big concern is on 3D, I know the Epson is plenty bright, but fan noise concerns me.

Guess I'll try to find a dealer here in my area and see if I can get a demo.

Well I have a 120" and a 1.1 gain and I am SUPER BRIGHT...then again the bulb is new.

So yeah, get a demo....you should be good to go!
