Leaning toward the Epson 8350, but I'm a little concerned about the low light output in cinema mode. Looks like its under 500 lumens. I think my X1 is actually higher than that. I do have a totally light controlled room, but would like to be able to have some lights on in the back of the room when watching football. Also would like to have a small amount of light for movies as well. Should I be concerned about this? Are there any other PJ's that I should consider for under $1500? My PJ needs to be 17 feet from the screen, and it would take some work to move it forward, so I'd rather not.
Any help would be great.
Jkohn1, I can relate to your dilema. I wanted to upgrade from a Panasonic
AX200u to true 1080, as much or more lumens and better contrast/blacks.
The Epson 8350 was my first consideration and then I was "lured" to
the Epson 5010, the new Panasonic, and the new Mitisubishi. After much
consternation, I ordered the new Panasonic AR100u thinking that if I didn't
like it, I'd send it back. The more we watch it, the better we like it. It
is definitely an upgrade from our 4 year old model. Not a PJ for a "bat cave"
but in big room with ambient light it has sharper focus, brighter, better
contrast, better blacks, more "pop" and I had enough money left to get
a new Oppo BR and still spent less than originally planned. Good Luck
