While waiting for my AE100 projector to come from over seas I have come across another question.

In the manual it states:

Min Proj. Distance: LW=1.42xSW-.02
Max Proj. Distance: LT=1.70xSW-.08

I have a 92" width screen (52" height) which equates to 2.359 meters.

I have calculated the min distance to be 3.33 meters and the max to be 3.93 meters.

My question is: Ideally would I rather place the Projector at the minimum distance or the maximum distance? I would think the minimum distance would be optimal, but may sacrifice a little distortion due to "keystoning"??? Does this sound right? Or does it not make any difference what-so-ever as long as I am within those specifications as outlined in the manual.

Placement on the ceiling is not a concern to me as long as I get the best possible image out of this little machine. The room is 16' by 22', with a viewing distance of about 13.5 feet, which gives me 1.8X screen width (I hope screen door is not too big an issue for me).

Do you think the formula is (1.42xSW)-.02 or 1.42x(SW-.02) ?
I have been using the latter.

I've just been following the rules of algebra and been using the first equation. I could be wrong, but if is the latter then there should definitely be parenthesis around them.

I would place it at the minimum distance. I have mine at around 13ft from the screen and I'm all the way zoomed in at 100" diag or so. I would like to see how things looked with a smaller picture but I can't get it.

Brent so you are saying put it at the minimum distance and zoom it all the way out to the largest it can project at that distance?

Is there anyone else who has played around with the distance? Once my projector is mounted to the ceiling I would just like to leave it be.

The numbers really come out quite close, but which equation is right???

I have my wall marked out for a 110"in screen - the formula says the minimum distance is 11'3" - i am at 11'7" and have a little bit of zoom left, so i would think the formula (1.42*SW)-.02 is correct

i have the projector about 3" below the top of the screen so that no keystoning is required (no additional scaling either)
keystoning would be required if the projector is not at the correct height, it doesn't have anything to do with the min or max zoom
