Return of the diamond pixels?

Great, now we wait again till the middle of the year. I don't understand why these companies bother announcing vaporware products until they are truly ready. I mean, just wait six months and make the announcement with 'Available Now'.

If you want to get the anticipation going with the rumor mill, then do it a month in advance, not half a year before the product is due!

I wonder if the $800 retail means a quality glass lens with with even & stable focus?

Saw the Q5 at CES, I will eat my hat if Vivitek can get more than 300 ANSI lumens with Rec709 primaries and white points out of this thing by the time it hits retail.

I have a fedora, suppose I could eat that if the Qumi can get more than 300 real ANSI lumens.

Seeing how the Q2 pumps out around 230-240~ with 300 declared, i'm betting the Q5 would reach around 400-420~.
It's still going to be pretty far than 500, i'm sure of that, but 300? that's going a bit too far.
.....would you like some ketchup with that hat?

Qumi Q2 pumps out 100~120 lumens when doing proper color. When it does color mixing, it gets around 1.6x, which is roughly 160 ~ 190 lumens

There is no way Vivitek will be getting more than 300 real ANSI lumens from the Q5

How do you do the measuring? usually when a company rates its products, it's a white picture, 100% brightness
Most reviews iv'e seen get 220-240 that way, and i personally get 233 (checked with an AEMC light meter)
If there's something that shows otherwise, i'd like a link to that

Unless Vivitek secretly redesigned their optics, the above review shows ball park figures for the brightness.

I have two Qumi Q2s here, each measuring around 100 lumens in sRGB mode.

Don't have any kind of agenda here, just stating that the Vivitek guys are not going to magically get a huge boost in lumens in the same size case just by changing the LED or the optics. We shall see when they launch the product. Just for comparison, the Optoma ML-500 gets around 380 lumens in brightest mode. The size and thickness of the unit is huge compared to the Qumi Q2 or Q5.

I use light meters from Konica Minolta and measure 9 points to get the ANSI lumens

You're right.
http://www.projectorcentral.com/Vivi...e=Key-Features
The brightest they got it to was 210, with most modes at about 140-170.
I probably need to re-calibrate my light meter.

Also, as much as i'm pleased with the little thing, the fact that some units may provide as much as 30 more lumens than other ones shows pretty poor QA, if you ask me.

Looks ok but I am happy with the Qumi so I guess its wait until Nov. 2012 to either buy a newer Qumi or see what improvements the Q5 has.

Russ.

Just curious folks how does this QUMI stack up to the LG- HX300 or the Hx350? I have been thinking about getting one of the new LED microportables and the two companies that are in the running are QUmi or the LG's Any help would be greatly appreciated

It was shown in various colours at ISE this week tiny screens, image with some ambient light was dim. Image size looked something in the 50-60 centimeter wide range, let's give it two feet.

Hey,
what do you think, should I wait for Vivitek Qumi Q5 or LG HW600g?

I need projector for evening movie watching and for playing games with my girlfriend.
Thanks for answer!

I am sorry, but when I tried to order the q5, they told me it was a mistake and the price was for the q2. The q5 didn't arrive yet to Australia

Thx for the update Wave.....

Honzik, I have the Q2 but I'm sending it back. It is not bright enough, sharp enough nor does it have the best black levels.

I will definitely look at the Q5, and if you can wait you may wish to do the same.

Not bright enough for projection in night? Was the Q2 noisy? Right now, I search for something a little bit bigger like the LG LED projectors, because Vivitek make LED projector small = noisy. There will be probably new LED projectors in summer like LG HW600g or Vivitek Q5. You know some other ones which will be released this summer?

Thanks!

It would be OK for a dark room, as long as your projected image was not too large.

It was about as noisy as a regular projector.

I keep looking, I briefly owned the Q2. The size is simply fantastic, and outweighs many of its faults.

I'd suggest you wait for the Q5 I will almost definitely purchase one as soon as it ships.
