Hey guys had pj on tonight for a couple hours and noticed that the fan was permanently on high speed.

Its an hd65 and never had this issue before. High altitude mode was off, lamp set to eco / standard etc. Switching settings around didn't alter fan speed either. Also noticed when I powered off for the night its just turned off instantly....ie no normal countdown from 8 for example.

Anyways I will try again tomorrow to see if it continues but just wondering if this is telling me something bad is about to happen.

Anyone have any ideas? Hrs on current lamp=170.

Also make sure AI isn't on. Then, you might want to try a reset. Go to the options menu and it's at the bottom. If that doesn't work, and you are brave, you might want to try a factory reset from the service menu. Press on the remote with the projector already on; power once, left, left and up. The service menu will appear, then select factory reset, although I make no promises as to what will happen and you might brick your unit.

Thanks for the reply. I made sure last night that AI was off as well. I'll check again tonight and if it still does it, then I'll try the reset (noting my settings first of course) :P also saw another thread re: exhaust vs intake (intake pulling in some of the hot exhaust) might be that if the reset doesnt work. Either way whne I have a solution, Ill report back.

Yeah, that was my thread. Not sure it will help in your situation, since you say the fans go full blast from startup. Also, when you shut down, there is no countdown. That has happened to me once or twice randomly, although my unit functions fine next start up. Makes me think it is a software problem, not hardware, but I could be wrong.

Weird... last night tried again and it was actually quieter than ever. wondering if it being on high speed for a while cleaned itself out a little.... oh well I'll keep my eye on it.

You might want to tape a little cardboard flap over that side intake like I mentioned in the other thread, to make a barrier between it and the side exhaust. It really did work for me until I built a hush box. Don't cover it, just make a little u-shaped piece to shield it from the front exhaust, and to encourage it to take in the cooler air underneath.
