Hello all,

My friend has an Optoma GT700 projector which he has been using for several months. It's started showing a weird behavior...I can best describe it as this:

The colors on the screen "cycle" through all the various colors in a uniform way. It looks very trippy. The image quality/brightness is fine. The only problem is it cycles through a rainbow of colors (but you can still see whatever is on the screen perfectly). This happens with different devices plugged in as input, and it only happens after 15-30 minutes of use.

The heat coming out of the unit feels about typical in force and in heat, fan seems to be working fine.

The color problem will occur for 30-120seconds, and then "settle" on the normal colors. Shortly after, it'll cycle again, and so on.

So, what is the problem?

My first thought is the color wheel, or maybe just the bearings to the color wheel. The only thing stopping me from getting a replacement color wheel right now is there is no grinding/banshee/ticking/flickering. The transition between the trippy colors is "smooth". As well, I haven't been able to find any reference among a large variety of sources to this specific type of problem and DLP projectors in general.

I will try to acquire video footage and provide a link for it if that will help anyone help me determine what the problem is.

Thanks in advance,
