I don't want to import glasses and waste the money if I can't enjoy it. How dark does it really get? Any way I can test it at home currently? I have RealD glasses I got from the cinema at home, just to test it, will the brightness loss be comparable to DLP link glasses when I look at the screen with these glasses, or will it be even dimmer? I've got a 100" screen and watch movies in complete darkness.

Put on dark sun glasses enable minimum energy saving mode and see if it is ok for you. Easy test. DLP Link glasses are filtering 70-80% of the brightness. I tested with my 3D glasses and its the same effect as with my darkest sun glasses.

Are you kidding? There are lots of movies

And all the time? No, only to view 3D content and are comfortable

Same here, I don't know why are people talking so much problem with their 3D movies. I started using PowerDVD12 since only last year and I really loved it, especially how the software up-convert the video image, and from 2Dto 3D image conversion.

Hi people

what is the verdict with pc gaming and the PA70G. I want to buy 2 of them and span the screens for wide screen pc gaming. Has anyone done this? will it work? Is gaming with the PA70G good?

Thanks

I also have the same problem where my focus wheel only goes so far. I think i read a few pages back where you could just remove the wheel, and put it back in so the notches allow for more rotations, is this what you did to increase the range yours could focus?

Please describe in greater detail how you increased the range of focus!

Thanks, I eventually found someone in my city that was kind enough to lend me his DLP glasses and I'm quite disappointed with the 3D. As you said, it way to dark to enjoy. The brightness trade-off for some depth to the image is not worth. Glad I didn't have to spend my own money on importing these expensive glasses.

I think you might have to share with us your screen size and if the room was super dark and if you were using a wall as screen or real store bought screen.
For example, on a 70 inch widescreen on favi screen with highest brightess settings in super dark room, 3d looks good. But if it was on 120 inch widescreen projected on wall , with light coming into the room, it would SUCK.

This is a 700 lumen PJ and not a 2,000 lumen PJ, so the screen sizes have to be smaller for 3d because 3d cuts the lumens down a lot.

Well im trying to decide between these

AXAA 3D LED Showtime - 450 lumens - 2000:1 contrast - Apparently 3D Vision enabled & HDMI 1.3 (i emailed them) = $499

LG PA70G 3D LED - 700 lumens - Not 3d vision compatible, may work with amd hd3d in eyefinity = $639

3d vision & size of the AXAA would be nice but the high contrast on the LG would be great too!

I want to buy 3 for PC gaming in surround/eyefinity and have each projectors image only 30" diagonal. So i hope this increases the brightness enough. I'm even thinking of getting a mirror setup for rear projection and cut down on the size of the set up. Obviously first surface mirrors. Just got to find some or one.

Which one should i get?

The PA70G is neither 3D Vision nor AMD HD3D compatible for 3D surround gaming.

The ASUS B1M Doesnt look bad at all and its short throw!

1m distance = 51 Inche diagonal screen.

If i dont want to go 3d this would have to be the leader now! LED + Short throw.

Has anyone used the PA70G or ASUS B1M or AXAA 3D LED SHOWTIME for gaming on pc?

If so how are the following issues?

Input lag
Rainbow Effect
Brightness
Ghosting Pixels

thanks

im not going to read a whole thread on a projector 70 pages long when i haven't even narrowed it down to that projector. I still have 6 - 7 other projectors im looking at. so far i reckon ive put near 100 hours into researching various options and im down to a handfull. So hence why I'm asking specific questions about pc gaming each different projector thread. Then i can monitor and come back and save myself some more time. it appears no one is using these type of projectors for gaming and i dont know why??? and here i am trying to buy 3 of them specifically for gaming.

I have not tried pc and i don't want to. hope this helps some.

Don't rely on one or two people who said it works, do your homework, make a research as simple as that and PLEASE! Don't be too demanding.

Well done another 5 hour sesh of research and im back to the BenQ w710st.

Its short throw, bright, 3d vision enabled, cheap and available.

unfortunately i just got a call from work and i have to fly out for the next 3 weeks and the land i bought is now settling whilst ill be away so i have to sort it out now before i leave. So it looks like i wont be putting the order in till the start of June sometime. But thats ok it alows more time for research. I would love to get the LEDs because of there size, low noise and low maintenance but 3D Surround will look awesome with GTA V and DAYZ. 3rd person games look mint.

Has anyone considered modifying the fans so they are a little less noisy? Or perhaps even removing them completely and just strapping some 120mm fans to the side of the case? I really like the brightness on the highest setting, but the fans are wayy too loud (my theater room is whisper quiet, so they REALLY stand out).

I am considering opening my case to see if I can adjust the focus wheel (has anyone had success with that?) and while I was in there I am thinking of trying to remove the fans and just replace them with some super quiet 120mm computer fans.

Any thoughts?

There are multiple small thick fans in there that could likely be volt dropped but then you are not going to have proper cooling (especially at minimum energy saving).

Removing them to add fans to the outside of the case will not likely allow proper cooling either as the proximity and pressure created by the fans will change.

Best of luck,
Jason

@DaGamePimp

Hmm I wonder if there is any safe way to at least try it. I have some very nice 120mm fans that move a lot of air.. The current fans barely move any air (at least judging by the tiny amount that blows out the exhaust). I would THINK that two 120mm fans on the side would keep the projector cool enough. Has anyone tried removing the fans? How hard are they to get to?

The fans are right there when the case comes apart and a couple can simply fall out on their own.

As I said best of luck if you attempt it but don't be shocked if the unit fails on you due to doing so.

Loving my LG PA70G in my man cave. I got some redi-shades from Amazon and the room is great 24/7 now. I have Direct TV my BD player and my ROKU all hooked up through my Onkyo HT-S5400. All my friends love it and can't believe I have so little invested in my home theater. I just have the pic on my wall as of now and my projector sitting on a table till I can get it mounted. No one seems to care but me but I hope to get that done soon.

Can't wait for football season!

The fan noise on the pa70g is a non-issue for most of us. You have to also think in terms of comparisions with other PJ's of same lumens in the noise level.

It is an individual matter, so I don't think anyone would say that if the noise bothers them, they are "wrong", just they might be more sensitive to it than the average person.

Any room I'm in, usually isn't whisper quiet, and if it is , I usually use a sound conditioner in it because, a too quiet room can make any sound LOUD that is distracting.

I can only hear the fan noise if the PJ is on brightess mode, I can't hear it on the other modes. So, maybe make screen size for medium brightness mode, or make the room darker. If you have to use brightess mode, move further away from pj, if I am 4 or 5 feet away from PJ, I can't hear it on higher mode.

If I turn on a sound conditioner , I can't hear it no matter where it is, in any mode. Also, I can't hear barking dogs or screaming children, or car sounds outside the house. smile.gif

It's all relative, and most pj's have about same sound levels, because most have fans in them (generally 25-33 range).

For anyone interested in purchasing the PA75U version of this projector (has some built-in networking and TV tuner feature), looks like New Egg has it on sale for $580, which is a bit lower than previous sale prices (use promo code EMCYTZT3397):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005485&Tpk=LG%20PA75U&IsVirtualParent=1

For my part, I am happy with the PA70g connected to my media PC - I think that option gives the best flexibility and control over media access/display.
