I was trying to figure out how to put a 65-inch TV above my fireplace, though it would have almost touched the ceiling and been difficult to watch. I am now seriously thinking of a projector based system.

1. Are there any issues with having a retractable screen that drops down over a fireplace (it won't be used if the fireplace is on)?

2. For casual console gaming, how do video games appear when projected on a 100 inch screen?

3. What needs to connect to the projector? 1 HDMI cable to connect to a receiver and power? Anything else?

4. How far back does a projector typically have to be from a 100 inch screen?

Thanks.

No

Awesome

Basically that would do it. IR if you have a wireless remote system, 12V trigger cable to screen if using an electric screen with 12V interface.

Depends on the projector

Thanks.

Dropping a retractable screen in front of a fireplace is good. That's one of the best reasons to have a retractable screen.

Console gaming on a 100 inch screen is also usually great - much better than on any regular sized screen. Only problem is when you stand in the light path while playing.

As far as projector mounting distance, every projector is a little different, of course, and most projectors have zoom that allows flexibility in distance, but generally, the projector gets mounted slightly behind but close to the viewers' seating distance. Mine is about 16 feet away from a 106" screen. There are projector calculators that will give you more exact distances for specific projectors.
