Hey guys,

Still working on finishing my basement and have not fully decided what projector to purchase if buying new. However, I found a deal on a used 8350 that I am strongly considering. I just wanted some opinions on it.

He is asking $800. It was purchased new from Best Buy on 5/6/11. So I would have a few months of epson coverage. It also comes with a 4 year warranty plan from best buy that expires 5/6/15. States that plan also covers bulb replacements. Sounds like the projector is on its second bulb with 500hrs on it. Says the projector has been issue free and got about 2500 hours on it before replacing the first bulb.

Thoughts?

Not a good enough deal......you can find Refubished 8350 on the Epson site for $999 with 2 year warranty....and sometimes even a 10-15% coupon code to go with it.....

2500 hours on the projector is the main reason....LCD panels don't last forever.....

The best buy warrenty is a good deal...if anything happens between Epson and Bestbuy you will be ok. Read on here how many "Refurbs" they have returned over and over. You might be better off with a good used one than rolling the dice on a refurb, plus Epson and Bestbuy have your back!!! Talk him down another 100 bucks and get it!

Depends on how particular you are about black levels too. I had the 8350 and sold it and bought the 8700. The blacks were really gray on the 8350 and that's all I could concentrate on during a movie. The 8700 is much, much better black levels and pop.

Well, you can get a refurb Epson 6500ub w/ 2-year warranty from the manufacturer for $999, much better black level (more home theater than the 8350 as a general purpose pj).

I need to call BB to inquire on the particulars of thw warranty. The main reason I was considering it eas due to the prolonged coverage with the BB plan.

Guess I've had good luck with a Epson refurb.....

2500 Hours but with 10 months extra warranty VS refurb with most likely low hours

That said I'd prolly go with the refurb 6500UB......unless you can talk the guy down a little on the used projector.....

Hope I'm not violating forum rules.

Try Google it. It's not listed under their "normal" refurb site, but it is still in stock this morning.

Found another 8350 with only 361 hours. Same asking price. Under warranty until september next year. I guess with that other one I am assuming that something will happen to it given the hours and with the extra BB warranty I would end up getting new one out of the deal.

How does the Epson warranty work exactly. Say you have an issue on month 23 of the plan and you get a refurb or replacement. The replacement/refurb then only last 2 months...then what?

I don't think warranty's are transferable first of all...but assuming they are....I'm pretty sure you only get 24 months of total coverage, in your example you are out of luck at 25 months even if you just got it replaced 2 months ago, but epson is pretty reasonable so if that happened I think they would try to help you out......

I will have to check into transfer ability of the Epson warranty. If there is no transfer, the high mileage 8350 with BB warranty might be they way to go if the price is right. Sent an email today to the guy checking in to see if he still has it and if he is still at $800.

I'm with some of the other suggestions here. I got a refurb 8350 from Projector People several months ago for not much more than what your guy is asking for a used one. I'm extremely happy with my purchase. It shipped fast and it's no different from getting a new unit. In fact I don't know how you would tell it apart. Everything is packaged the same as new.

The 8350 has inorganic panels that will last well beyond the full usage/duration of the typical projector owner.

I would stay away from the 6500 as it has the organic LCD panels.

The Best Buy 4 yr warranty is a good buy.
I've never had any issue making claims & if needed, they will even have someone come to your house and repair/disgnose it if needed.
Hassle free replacement if the projector dies & free upgrade if Epson no longer makes that model.

Getting closer to making a move on a projector. Just to update things I have used 8350's that i am strongly considering due to pricing. To be honest after I get my basement finished probably couldnt afford to by new..lol.

The first one is the original one noted in the beginning of the thread. The one with close to 3k hours, under epson warranty till 5/13 and BB warranty until 5/15. He is now at $700 cash money.

The second is a 8350 with 1100hrs on original bulb. Its under epson warranty until 3/13. He is asking $675, but I think he will take $600.

It looks like the no brainer move is to go with the 8350 for $700 with the BB warranty. Id be surprised if it would actually make it to the end of the BB warranty. So I may end up getting a new projector out of the deal. Am I missing something here or is it finally the time to take the plunge?

Thanks,

Jason
