The only thing that really jumps out at me from the specs is that its fan is 39db...Pretty loud and you'll probably need a hush box.

Other than that, If you're getting a good price on it and are able to demo it, then it may be a winner for you.

The problem with Contrast ratings is that every manufacturer uses a different standard. 300:1 may be good or it may be horrible. Without having independent reviews or being able to demo the projector yourself, it is a possible crapshoot.

What kind of price are you considering good? How would this projector's price compare to say the Panasonic 75u or 711xu, or a NEC LT155, or some of the sanyo units.

Best case, arrange a demo so you can see yourself if the projector suits your needs.

2500 - 3k is quite a lot for a PJ that is not known to the HT community...

You may (if you are lucky) get a XP21N or clone at that kind of money and definately a LT150...

A DiY home made screen is not too bad a start or a cheap Da Lite is also possible...

What source (and scaling if any) are you thinking of...

London is surely not the end of the world when it comes to FP units... A TE100 which is pretty popular currenly would only be about $1400 shipped to your door...

Taxes to the UK is VAT... IIRC correctly its 17.5%...

If you know anyone with a business they can claim it back or there are other less legitimate ways of getting around it... 2k extra no way...

I have PM'ed you a link for a cheap TE100 but read more on here for the warrantee implications of overseas purchase but as you are already 'overseas' to the US some of this gets a little odd....

You should be able to find locally a Panny PT-AE100 for no more than £1500 including VAT, with full local warranty. Plus you should be able to demo one before buying ;)
But don't buy a PJ nobody knows about without demoing it first.

I would be hesitant to purchase it. Without a forum like this to give you some idea of whether you need an outboard scaler or de-interlacer to get a good picture, you could end up with a very crappy picture that needs external equipment to fix. A Panasonic RP-56 progressive scan DVD won't hit your bank account too hard, but an exteral scaler could cost some cash.
