Need some help in finding places in the Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia areas to get my feet wet looking at front projectors. Any suggestions for retail outlets to consider. Thanks!

There are a few Myer Emcos in the area. The one in Bailey's Crossroads (Alexandria, Va) has a Sony 11HT setup but I wasn't too impressed with their setup. Other Myer Emco stores in Va. have some much more expensive projectors setup for demo.

Their is a Tweeters in the Vienna area that has a Yamaha setup.

The best place to go is AudioBuys in Manassas, Va (out 66W). A great setup with three full theatres. Last I check one had a Sony 11HT, one a Sharp 9000, and the third had a CRT setup. I haven't seen many projectors setup so I can't comment of image quality.

Thanks, Brando. Nice summary. I had no idea that there was a Tweeters in the Washington, D.C. area. Have never come across any of their advertising here.

Hi Chaser-

Try Ritz AV in Maryland. They have a showroom (appointment only), but they have a TON of projectors. As Brando2 mentioned, Myer-Emco has only a few PJs and those are all higher-end units (definitely not in the <$5k range).

Thank you, z.mash. Looks to be a great place to do some one stop demo-ing.

Gramaphone (sic?) in Columbia, Md has several theatres with projectors. Don't remember which type/brands though. I found them to be pretty pretentious and somewhat arrogant, although a friend told me their store in Timonium (north of Balto) is more "realistic". HNick

They carry Runco and Sony the last time I was there. They steer you away from the Sonys. If you do go the Runco route, buy a VX1000c and not any of the older DLP models.

I think they might carry Pioneer plasmas...

I'd avoid Gramaphone unless money is no object...and maybe even then. Some of the sales staff are pretty clueless outside their product lines (and sometimes within their product lines...they are no longer a NAD dealer).
