I'm thinking about replacing my HC3800 with a 3d upgrade. Can you tell me if any of the list below is possible and what your picks would be?

Must have better 2D image than the HC3800 (including at least the same or better sharpness and better and better blacks).
Must be under $2k but I prefer to stay around the $1.5k mark
I have a cave so Light cannon is not a necessity - but I don't want a Dim 3D image either
Needs to be a competent video game player as well.

I hope you can help; the under $2k game has changed so much since my last adventure.

I think what I'm after is a better 2D experience that also happens to do 3D - especially since the 3d would mostly be for gaming.

PS I'm projecting 106 inches dia.

I don't know if 2d would look better than the HC3800, but the Optoma HD33 comes to mind.

I ended up getting the epson hc3010. It was crap compared to the HC3800. It did well enough to raise my curiosity, so i blew the budget on the 5010...I'm in love!!

Haha. Jim I'm not going to lie: The DLP is the "film like" king, and I do miss that quality about it. I'll be back in another two years.

Get a refub JVC X3 for under $2k and do not use the 3D feature. You'll never go back to DLP or LCD again.

If DLP is the filk-like king, then LCoS must be the "crt-black emperor".

For extra sharpness, get a Darbee w/ your JVC,

Have fun.
