I have a VPL-HW15 right now, great projector, flawless performance for the last 2 years.

But, what is the next best upgrade as it looks like technology has moved on a bit.

3D would be nice, but let's be honest, hardly a game changer. So 2D is still more important.

What is the next move under 3k? I do love Lcos as I used to be a CRT'r

I had the HW10 and HW15, as well as VW60, but moved on to JVC for good due to its "crt-black".

The strengths of the Sony are:

- natural color
- quiet
- less lamp issues

Cons:
- use of dynamic iris, not good for sci-fi or dark movies like HP or Alien
- rather flat (less pop)
- dim

The latest JVC is a tad shaper, but not by much. Even an old JVC RS1 had better blacks than any of these 3 Sony's. Like you, 3D is not for me either.
