Howdy AV gurus, I've been looking to upgrade my projector for a few years now, and am hung up on research. I just can't choose what I'll be happy with!

Currently I have a Epson EP772 projector, it's lost a notable amount of brightness, and is only 720p. Here's the stats link: http://www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-EP772.htm

I'm a PC gamer and I play on a 1080 monitor and will clone my video to the projector as well (My partner and roommates like to watch me play new releases and such.) so the projector needs to be 1080 as well. I'll be using this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003B4O7NS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i02

I live in a basement with a few windows, that I have made amazing blinds for that block all sunlight, but my monitors stay on while using the projector, so there's a bit of light. My iphone FC app says my room is 2-4 FC in the dark and about 13-14 with the lights on. I'm projecting onto a 4:3 that's not fully extended and ends up being a 106" diagonal in 16:9. It's a high contrast gray, .8 gain, here's a link: http://www.projectorpeople.com/screens/proddtls.asp?productID=20963

The less money I spend the better, but I could possibly spend $1500. I hope to keep my price down by avoiding 3D, but if the best projector happens to have it that's fine, I'll just never use it.

I'm currently looking at the Epson 8350 for $1099 as well as the PT-AR100U for $1320. But i'm certainly not hung up on this at all. Though I do lots of classic gaming, so I need an S-video in.

So, the short story,

I need:
  • 1080p resolution
  • S-Video In

I have:
  • A .8 gain screen
  • Decent light control (Tell me if this is correct)
  • 106" Screen
  • ~$1500 available

So PLEASE ask me questions if you have any, I want to be as humble as possible to find the perfect projector for me!

The Panasonic is supposed to be a good choice for gamers at that price range.

But you are familiar with Epson's and that would be my choice as a home theater pj right now in that price range.

Roach360, where did you find the 8350 for $1,099?

It's on amazon when actually sold by the amazon warehouse.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044UHJWY/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

Though they frequently go out of stock, seems to be a weird 3 day rotation.

Should I go with that?

Well, the epson is up to $1200 and the Panny is $1360 now...

Anyone know when I should expect a price drop?

Do you want 3D, are you set on LCD?
There is the Benq w1070 coming out if you can wait, supposed to have 3D and I'm guessing it'll be in that same price range. It's 1080p. I don't know lag numbers.
A little more expensive, an Optoma hd33 also has 3D and is good for gaming.

2D wise and cheap, the Viewsonic Pro8200 has around 20ms of lag or less and is under $800, the image it produces is at least equal to an Epson 8350 and in some respects better (the DLP has better pixel fill so sitting closer provides a smoother image). The 8350 does have a bit darker blacks for movies and dark games though. Then there is the Mits hc4000 which is another one to look at, similar to the 8350 with darker blacks than the VS, but overall a little better image than both, but it has more RBE than the VS if you are sensitive. Keep in mind some of these projectors I listed have limited placement flexibility and NO lens shift (which could force you back to LCD).

See my Top Proj Picks in my signature below (although can be intimidating)

Thanks for the reply coderguy. My first post covers all of your questions.

I'll look at those two projectors now.

Since the price is $200 less than the AR100U, I went with the 8350.

It arrives later this week, after my install I'll post some pictures and a short review.
