The Epson uses RF 3D glasses. I couldn't find a spec sheet for the Panasonic but I found at least one review that claimed they used IR glasses. And I know that the first few Panasonic 3d plasmas did in fact use IR before they switched to RF.

If you are looking for some cheap extra 3d glasses to go with your Epson I would recommend these:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SSG-51...p_89%3ASamsung

The only issue with them is they are not rechargeable. But with only occasional use I have yet to replace the watch battery these run off of. They feel a bit flimsy but I found them more comfortable then other cheap RF glasses I obtained.

I guess this is normal for this PJ..hot and no cool down?

I think my 5020UBe does have a cool-down cycle, though it might not run that long. I've always run my lamp in ECO mode - I'll pay attention the next time I fire it up - er, down . I think my old 7500UB had a noticeably longer cool-down mode? Neither PJ seemed to run that hot, though my room is ~16x20x8 and is open via a hallway to another slightly larger-sized room. Plus I cover PJ with a custom-made hush box that's lined with acoustic foam to help absorb noise since the PJ is ceiling-mtd above the seats. Attached pix are when I still had the 7500UB installed.

What lamp mode do you typically run yours in?

Just joined UB club with refurbished 5020 from Epson store which replaced my Epson 3500.

I didn't had projector before 3500, neither i saw any other good projector in action. I was happy with 3500 except the brightness was bit more than i wished.

With 5020 - the immediate improvement i noticed is improved black even without Dynamic IRIS, though difference is not day and night and 3500 also have very good dark level for my expectations. The sharpness of 5020 is way better than 3500, i attribute it to Better and bigger lens of 5020, but i guess the side effect of this improved sharpness is I can see screendoor effect from 8 feet than 6 feet for 3500.

Once i adjusted to little low light of 5020 in THX / Cinema mode, the movie quality is awesome, again its not far from 3500 for my home environment but improvement over 3500 is there for sure.

However kind of noises 5020 makes it feels less solid than 3500.

Picture quality - nothing else than Blu Ray does justice to the output of this projector, downloaded BDrips looks really bad. I subscribed to netflix dvd with Blu rays and the experience I get on my beige color living room wall is still better than most of the theaters I have seen (except sound, i use Bose SoundTouch Portable)

The part link on Philips site seems broken, can anyone point to an updated correct one?

has anyone heard any details about what will replace the 5030?

I still have my 5020 and it's still keeping me happy, but I'd love to start doing some reading on what the next generation 5k models from Epson are going to look like.

The Bad news

Mine came with problem ! AutoIris defective, when ever auto iris is started i get blue screen to contact nearest Epson service center. No other option but shutdown projector, I have set AutoIris off for all modes, but still sometimes it comes up at start.

Contacted Epson and they are saying we dont have replacement projector and you have to wait till one comes in stock, check our site and if you see in stock contact us !!!

should i ask for refund or wait ?

It will be really painful to let go such good deal and now i am spoiled that i can not go anything below 50XX series

kindly advise.

I absolutely love my Epson 5020 it's been good to me for a little over 2 years but I'm having an issue with it. Go figure right after the warranty is up! Anyhow it happened last night we just got done watching Homeland on my home theater PC and everything was great, the PC powered down and up came my Denon Logo... but I noticed something odd. The picture looked almost like a double screen, a little distorted. I started my PS4 and boom the image was stacking next to each other.

After many, many hours of trouble shooting. It turned out to be the HDMI Port 1. Port 2 works just fine and I never used it in the 2 years I owned it. Have any of you had this issue? I wondering If I should go through the trouble of getting this fixed and just move on and use HDMI 2 port. Thanks!!

On a side note, how do you guys power down you components? Is there a correct way of doing it? Here's my order:

Power down: Blu-ray player
Power down: Epson Projector
Power down: Denon receiver.
Finally after 10 minutes I return and flip the power switch on the Projector.

Didn't realize there's a process to turn off your equip. I hit the off button on the side of the 5020.
