Hello everybody,

I'm currently planning the purchase of my first projector. However, I would need to cover a long throw distance and I haven't found any projectors that would be suitable to both my budget and my living room.

My situation:

- distance screen - lens of projector: ca. 5,50 m (18 ft)
- screen width: max. 2,33 m (91,7 inches)
- seating distance: ca. 4,50 m (14,6 ft)

- usage 90% movies, 10% PS3: Full-HD, 3D would be nice

- budget: 1000 - max. 2000 USD

I haven't found any projectors (with the exception of the Epson EH-TW3200) within my budget that would cover this throw distance and project a small enough image. Unfortunately, the Epson EH-TW3200 is 2D only.

I have a very high ceiling, so a ceiling mount is not possible to get closer to the screen.

Thanks a lot in advance for any suggestions!

Do you have a preference on LCD/DLP? The Acer H9500BD (DLP) is pretty close to your parameters at its lowest zoom setting. It can be had within your price range and there's a good deal right now at a certain online retailer. If you do a wall mount you could probably have enough play in the extension to get your desired screen size. Just be aware that being at the lowest zoom setting affects some display properties, most notably brightness is reduced and constrast is increased.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Yes, the Acer H9500BD might work. I planned to do a wall mount anyways and this might give me last few missing inches.

At the lowest zoom settings, how big would be the reduction in brightness? An increase in contrast, however, would not be a bad thing, no?
