It seemed strange to me there wasn't a topic on this projector already. Here's a serious competitor from Acer and an answer to BenQ's W1070.
Quote:
To enjoy unforgettable entertainment, image quality is extremely important. This is why the new Acer H6510BD projector packs a number of technologies designed to produce a stunning visual experience and incredibly lifelike images with enhanced contrast and greater brightness.
The Acer H6510BD projector brings the magic of cinema and 3D projection to your living room as it supports popular 3D technologies, such as Blu-ray™ 3D, DLP® 3D, and NVIDIA® 3DTV Play™. You just need to connect a Blu-ray Disc™ player, a console or a PC to enjoy enhanced stereoscopic multimedia and literally be thrown into the action of the movie or the game for a totally immersive experience.
On top of this, the H6510BD can turn any video, picture or game into an awesome 3D entertainment, thanks to Acer 2D-to-3D technology that automatically converts into 3D any 2D picture or video signal that passes through the HDMI® port. No extra software is required: you just need to go to the on-screen menu and turn the function on.
The H6510BD has native Full HD 1080p resolution that delivers sharp, high-quality imagery for a true cinematic experience with every detail preserved with true-to master precision. In addition, it is also equipped with True 24p feature. This means the projector can display a 1080p resolution image in 24 frames per second, for the same grand visual enjoyment as watching a movie in the theatre.
Better black levels are the key to enhance the home theatre experience, and the H6510BD projector features DynamicBlack™ technology that dynamically fine-tunes each scene to optimal black levels while maintaining the original brightness of images, achieving a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and vibrant colors for a true cinematic adventure.

Top-class technologies, designed to enhance colour accuracy and sharpness, make sure the quality of images is unrivalled. The H6510BD reproduces images with more natural and balanced shades, achieving truly lifelike tones, thanks to Acer ColorBoost II+; ensures colour fidelity even after prolonged use thanks to ColorSafe II, and achieves a wider colour gamut via Acer SpectraBoost, a color-wheel coating technology that boosts color saturation.
A host of convenient settings and advanced features improve usability and presentation flexibility, making this projector the perfect for home theatre use. With Smart Detection the projector detects input signals as soon as a source is connected, while thanks to Acer SmartFormat technology it supports almost all wide-format PC signals. Support for multiple PC input offers flexible connectivity and instant switching.
Moreover, this projector is environment friendly. ExtremeEco technology enables power savings of up to 70% and extends lamp life to up to 7000 hours, while EcoProjection reduces standby power consumption by up to 90%.

Brightness is specified at 3000 lumens yet the lamp is only 210W (BenQ W1070 is specified 2500 lumens with a 280W lamp). It's doubtful that Acer uses RGBRGB color wheel.

Anyone know when this is supposed to be available to order in the US? My old bulb is almost dead & may need to act soon on a new projector. May just jump on the W1070 if it's going to be another month or more.

Can't find any details on the 3D? Is it passive/active? Does it require a special screen, etc. Really waiting for a passive 3D projector to hit the market.

Pretty safe bet it is active.

Passive requires a special screen. There are kits to turn a single projector to work as passive with a special screen. Then there are some that use dual projector set ups too. Passive will cost more up front but glasses will be cheaper.

I'd sure like to hear more about this projector. I wonder what the holdup is?

I downloaded the manuals the other day. I was disappointed to read that the projector apparently only has one configurable user setting, the same as the H9500BD, and a source of frustration for those who want two separate user settings for 2D and 3D. I figured that a 2-user setting would be a given.

In China it's cheaper than BenQ W1070. I think I've read about $800.

It has RBGCYW color wheel... Theoretically, the CLO (color light output) will be significantly less than WLO (white light output). Very bright image but relatively washed out colors. Only tests will tell if this is true.

does this have the same black as the other Acer that people were comparing the w1070 with, umm 9500 or something like that? if so and if it matches everything else the BenQ offers minus lens shift then this would be the winner between the two

Well at a price point of $799 thats pretty damn good

I have a RS50 that is of course wonderful in my dark dedicated theater room but it is mediocre for 3d and while my Panny plasma in another room is good for 3d, the effect ust isn't the same on a 50" compared to a 106" screen so I decided yesterday I was going to get the Benq W1070 for just 3d viewing (and perhaps specific video games where I don't care about the pq like Rock Band) until this morning when I saw this thread and then checked out that German forum thread about user reports. I like that this will be cheaper and I think it is the way I will go though I will await for it to show up here in North America and see what the reports are like before deciding.

No matter which one I get, I'm excited at the idea of getting bright, crosstalk free/lessened 3d on my big screen for under a grand and also be able to save hours on my RS50 bulb.

For me the part that upsets me most in this PJ is the color wheel, which is RGBCMY. That explains how it has more specified lumen output compared to BenQ which has RGBRGB color wheel. While it will have more brighter image, colors on Acer should be under-saturated. Here's the theory: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1451895/epson-color-light-output-demo-at-ces-2013
Also, concerning this image

Don't get your hopes up too high because you might have noticed that this isn't a 1 pixel line nor 2 pixel as written but more like 4-6 pixel line. Of course you will see less fringing on such bold test line pattern.

Based on the manual this projector doesn't have grayscale controls so it is out for me.

A direct shootout results published !
W1070 vs. H6510BD

(in German so use Google translate)

review was very basic hardly any detailed information but from what I can tell the Acer is not a choice for movie goers. Will have to wait for better reviews to come out.
