I was watching tv in standard lamp mode last night, and realized...man is the fan ever loud. Is there any quick fix to dampen the sound, or re-direct it so I can't hear it as much. I sit directly under the ceiling mounted PJ. Maybe some sort of barrier between the projector and me? I don't want to make a hushbox with fans etc...out of my scope of expertise. Thanks

You can run in Eco mode, that should decrease the noise by about half. I had an HC1500 and when I decided to upgrade to 1080p I decided not to choose the HC4000 and instead went with the Epson 8350, one of the quietest projectors on the market. Mine is also ceiling mounted above my head so I did not want another noise maker.

The Epson has totally met my expectations and I can hardly hear it, even in quiet movie scenes.

Running eco mode just for less noise is not an option for me. I have ambient light in room, so I need the lumens.. Any other options? Even if it just decreases it a little?

I would deal with the ambient light problem first. That should have been done in the first place.

Hello, I just set up a new HC400 in a room with 3 big windows. It needs to run in the econ mode, the default setting, It is very quiet in that mode, just a whisper, and you get a much longer bulb life, I think. Go to Home Depot or similar and do what I did, get some blackout paper window shades, just stick them up on the windows. You will need a flashlight afterwards. Its very inexpensive, about $9 a box. Projectors by design, need a darkened room for good contrast.
