I set up my new projector and bluray player within the last week and have been really satisfied with the results, except there's just one problem: I'm seeing significant "noise" in some scenes and it's very noticable in blues and grays. Anyone familiar with this? How do I correct it? Thank you.

Is it on all sources?

Try setting brightness and contrast to midpoints, see if the noise is there. Adjust down both settings until the noise becomes tolerable or unnoticeable.

People tend to jack the brightness/contrast on PJ's to get a more punchy picture, but when you do that you bring in the noise in image. On my Optoma, when
I reduced away the noise in the blacks I took away almost all my shadow detail. It was basically me running into the limitations of my projector.

Two other things to adjust:
SHARPNESS: Make sure its at its lowest setting while you try to pull the noise out.
GAMMA - you may or may not be able to adjust this on your particular PJ
Any COlor Enhancing or Iris type settings - Turn them OFF while you try to get the noise out.

These are kind of "Seat of your pants" calibration suggestions....it may help, it may not....but it can't hurt smile.gif

Head,
Thanks for your suggestions and I'll try all. Noise, I believe, is present on all sources but absolutely noticable on bluray - so much so that it is an annoyance. Initially I tried adjusting out the noise but to no avail. I'm concerned, as you mentioned, that I'm seeing the limitations of the projector (bummer). I'll take another crack at it tonight and report back.
