Does any one know the cause of this dark sport on my projector? How can I take care of it?

Sorry to here that you got scammed.. Apparently you got a lot of use out of it.. and hopeful only paid $100 for it.
This is a Single panel LCD projector with a fresnel lense in front of the panel and then the focus lens you see outside. This was the technology used in the very first digital projectors back in the late 1990s. Dirt and dust can get into the light path and cause issues like this.
Good luck!

If you are going to replace it, open it up and see if you can fix the issue.. Then start doing some research, this is a good thread to start with. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1339241/coderguys-cheat-sheet-for-choosing-a-projector/0_100
