I have a question regarding acceptable convergence issues with an Epson 8350.
This is the second unit that I've had, and the picture seems a bit fuzzy to me, especially on text.

Here is an example:

Is this normal for this projector, or is this something that I should contact Epson about?
Opinions?

Not sure if that is normal, I will check mine next time I have it on and let you know.

That looks a little extreme to me. Send the photo to Epson support and voice your concerns.

Thanks for the replies. I contacted Epson and should have a replacement unit here tomorrow. Hopefully everything is cool with that unit. Getting ready for the game on sunday and would like to have the best picture possible.

From looking at the picture, it looks like if it were focused more(the picture, not the projector), the green and red misconvergence is only 1 pixel width. Maybe I am wrong on that one. But if I am right, I thought I read on the forum that if there is 1 or less pixel width of misconvergence, it is to be expected and falls within the acceptable limit for Epson. My 8350 is that way and I'd like to hear a follow up from you when you get your new unit to see if it's less or non-existent. Thanks.

Well, it looks like I played the lottery and lost.
Here is the replacement Epson unit I received today:

Luckily Epson technical support is sending out another replacement unit that should be here tomorrow.
We'll see how that one works out.

Holy smokes. Please keep us updated.

I ordered a refurbished 8350 that should be here tomorrow and am hoping to not run into these same problems.

Don't worry. Epson will make it right or complain enough for a refund if they can't.

Yesterday I was within minutes of pulling the trigger on a 8350refurb mostly on the idea of flexibility of placement. Found too many posts of convergence problems and went with a different unit. Seeing todays posts just supports my decision. Good luck.

Good chice because only Epson 3 panel projectors have convergence issues.

I received the 2nd replacement unit today, and I think I'll keep this one. While the convergence issue isn't completely gone, it is MUCH better than the last replacement unit, and I think it's better than the original. It the picture looks clearer overall anyway.

Here is the newest unit:

I'm satisfied enough (and scared enough after the last replacement unit) to keep this one. While the hardware issues do annoy me, I must say that Epson support was great on this. I originally called them on Monday, no hassles and they sent me out a replacement. I had the replacement unit on Wed. and called because it was terrible. They were very nice and helpful and sent out another unit. It's Thursday and I've got the new unit all hooked up, just need to calibrate it.

These are pretty amazing little machines for the price, assuming you get a good unit. If you don't, Epson appears (at least in my case) eager to fix the issue.

I think they sent me yours frown.gif

jk, yours was worse. But the purple/green fringe is pretty annoying on animated stuff.

My first projector the focus ring wouldn't move. Third times the charm?

These convergence issues are absolutely unacceptable, no other PJ manufacturer would accept such problems. Even the supposed high end units have problems. Epson are only keen to help because they know they allow crap to end up on the shelves that shouldn't. I've seen budget projectors with nothing like these issues. Epson should stick to printers, even though they are not that great.
