Go with an LED. they are much quieter than lamp based units since they don't generate a lot of heat

great, thanx. i also know that larger units are(should) be quieter. such as my current unit. as it is easier to move air through them.

The only loud fan complaints I ever hear about are when the projector is used in high power mode. When bulb is set to low, most are barely audible.

What model do you have, or had? Maybe the guys can do a comparison and say if some model would be quieter than your model.

Generally my room has a sound conditioner going to block out outside noises. So no PJ noise would bother me. Now if my room was absolutely quiet, than, noise would bother me, that is why I do have a sound conditioner. Weird how I'm using a fan-like sound to block out distracting noise. But it works for me.

With sound, it is hard to tell if a PJ would bother someone else, but as the other guy said, usually my bulb based PJand LED based PJ are set on eco mode, so quiet for me, even when my sound conditioner is off.

i have been out of the loop for about 2 years now. but back then, noise was an issue for some.

i have a VIEWSONIC PRO8100, low hours.

what is a sound conditioner ? noise cancelling ?

anyway. we watch a whole movie last night, with no problems. so my 8100 lives on, for now anyway. and i have no idea what the problem with it was.

When you are evaluating projectors, go look at the specs listed at projectorcentral.com and compare audible noise spec against what you have now.
http://www.projectorcentral.com/ViewSonic-Pro8100.htm
That is a rather low noise level, hope it keeps working for you.

thanx for the link. now that i know what
Audible Noise: 23.0 dB
Eco-Mode: 18.0 dB
sounds like, i have a reference . and 23db is starting to get loud, too me. 30db would be unexceptable . eco mode works great for me with my HP 2.8 screen.
