I know the first year, viewsonic has express exchange, I believe it's much faster exchange than in 2nd or 3rd year. It might be free shipping both ways. He only had the unit 3 months.
Look at lens and see if it looks clean, and maybe clean it if dust on it. But it looks like you will have to replace the PJ.
A couple of questions about your setup. Is the PJ well ventilated, are you ceiling mounted . How many hours on bulb? How many hours have you used it a day? Is there anything about your setup that could cause this? It's probably good to discuss it, just to make sure, so, you don't have repeat problems later on any PJ. Some people place it on ceiling mount or somewhere where airflow is limited and that could cause component problems with heat stress sooner then later. Also, good to let newer members know to make sure the sides get plenty of airflow. Now, it could just be one of those things that can happen, we are just troubleshooting.
