Though I've been heavily into HT for well over 10 years, I've been unable to set up a front projection system but I'm about ready to dive in. I'm pretty set on a screen with an Elite Screens EzFrame in the 110-120" size with the 1.1 gain cinewhite material. Room will be light controlled and seating will be in the 9-12 foot range. I think I've narrowed it down to the Epson 5020UB, Panny PT8000 and the Sony HW30ES. From what I can tell, all three of these are great projectors. It will mostly be for Blu Rays......occasionally a little Xbox, and will probably have a Time Warner cable HD-DVR hooked up at some point....but movies are the priority. Any feedback or words of advice, caution, warning are all appreciated. cool.gif

Everything I've read says "Get the Epson". However, I don't understand why everyone looks at the 5020 instead of the 6020. you get the 2 pairs of 3d glasses, extra bulb, ceiling mount, two extra years warranty, THX mode. Then the one thing money can't buy - it's BLACK!

Why is there NO perfect equipment, only compromises?

Why the Sonyhw30es and not the Sony hw50es (which is brighter and has more advanced sharpening known as RC)?
Out of those three choices, Sony hw30es is my pick.

You might can get last years 6010 for around $3k, and if gaming lag isn't really an important issue, but you would like a good bright pj with great 3D it might be a consideration. I don't game on mine, but any of the more competitive fps type games might be a little to much lag with that 6010. I noticed a jvs x35 for sale for about $2800, free shipping. Little higher operating cost, but about the best 2d image at that price. Not familiar with the seller, (B rating from the BBB http://www.bbb.org/new-jersey/business-reviews/internet-shopping/east-coast-tvs-in-linden-nj-90045885) but you might want to consider it for that price. http://www.eastcoasttvs.com/JVC-D-ILA-Projector-p/dlax35.htm?gclid=CIfjgfeGj7YCFfA-Mgod3BkAOQ and call AVS here to see what they have in stock.

Thanks so far everybody. It seems the 5020 has same specs as 6020......I don't see what the 6020 gets you for a higher price??? I haven't seen different projectors in action so I couldn't tell you if I prefer LCOS to LCD? My TVs have all been Panny plasmas the last several years. Still down to these three...all seem appealing and all about the same price.

What it gets you was listed above. Extra bulb, mount, extra warranty, back cover, etc. I got my 6020 for $500 more than the 5020 so it made more sense to get the 6020. It all depends on your budget though. I looked at the Panasonic also but preferred the Epson picture. Couldn't find a Sony to compare.
