Benq 2013:

W1070 vs W1400 vs W1500
Samfield's Avatar Samfield 06:26 AM 03-25-2013
Thanks, kraine. Always appreciate your advance notice and reviews before this gear hits the States.

Personally I'm hoping that the W1500 gives me that last bit of installation flexibility for my theater versus the W1070. The photos alone appear to show that the 1500 is more of a substantial build versus the 1070. Also looks like the vertical lens shift is a bit more ergonomic than the slotted 1070 adjustment screw. Hoping the zoom and focus controls function more independently, as well.

1800€? It's to much.

1500€ sounds better. The fare prices would be W1070 1000€; W1400 1200€; and W1500 1400€.

The main difference between W1400 and W1500 I think it's the WiFi.

Epson sells the same projector with an WiFi for 250€ more. Benq will do the same for 300€ more.

Anyway, if you keep in mind that W1500 has 3D, WiFi, AND frame interpolation, 300€ doesn't seems that much.
But if W1500 will have nothing else more than FI and WiFi over W1070, then 500€ seems to much.

The W1070 is currently sold for 799Euro due to the high demand. Before christimas the price was near 700 Euro.
The W1500 is currently sold for 1499Euro (1 offer) and 1699 Euro (2 offers on Google shopping).
The difference is even much higher than 500 Euro. It is almost twice the price.

I feel the W1400 should be no more than 250€ over the W1070. Now only if they would add a DI this could be a very nice projector. smile.gif

Which do you like better for 3D,Optoma HD25 or this BENQ W1500?

Kraine -

Does the W1500 have the same lens offset and vertical lens shift range as the W1070, or is the lens shift range perhaps greater?

Hard to answer because both of them has pros and cons :

HD25 pros RF
cons no FI in 3D

and W1500 it's the opposite;

Today I'm receiving the brand new universal RF Glasses from VOLFONI that are working with DLP-LINK,but sadly the W1500 is leaving the same day.

Nope it's almost the same, you chan check the offset here, it's the user manual :

The tables in that W1500 manual appear to be incorrect. For example the table on page 20 for 16 x 9 screens shows the same values for min and max throw distance (I was looking for a 120" screen) as does the equivalent table in the manual for the W1070. This cannot be correct since the W1500 has a 1.6x zoom.vs. 1.3x lens with the W1070. In that table it shows for a 120" screen a min. throw = 3038 mm and max. throw distance = 3949 mm which would mean a 3949/3038 = 1.3X zoom. It appears they just dropped the table from the W1070 manual into the new manual for the W1500 without making the necessary changes to account for the difference in the optics of the W1500.

I also think so. According to this overview the throw ratio is 1:1.07-1.71

Kraine,

I'm looking at moving to a place where I can't string the hdmi cable to the projector. Do you think that the wireless hdmi is 100% accurate/same as hard cable? Did you do a A/B comparison? Digits are digits so I would hope the picture is the same quality.
kraine's Avatar kraine 11:36 PM 04-01-2013
Hi jackB, I have tryed both connexion and was'nt able to see any difference.

sharpness = equal
brightness = W1070
all in all PQ = W1500
noise = equal
3D = advantage W1050 thanks to the FI
black level = equal
how good is FI or without it..
: FI isn't as good as SONY or JVC, it produce the same level of artefacts than a JVC X30

appreciated

w1070 brighter than the w1500 ? 2000 vs 2200 lumen ?
Some other questions:
Can you turn the FI completely of ? (on the screenshots i see middle in the screenshot of that menu)
I see PIP in the menu. On what does pip work ? Both hdmi inputs ?

After calibration yes. You can activate the FI on three different levels (low, medium, high) or desactivate it?

I didn't test the PIP Fonction sorry.

How did the W1500 case perform compared to the W1070?

The W1070 has a large amount of light leakage from the side of the case and a bright halo from the lens ring is noticeable. Is the W1500's case design far better in this regard?

Thanks!

I was this close to getting an Epson 5020 but I think I may go with this after reading all the issues with the Epson. This will be for lots and lots of 3D. It's a newer look, and hopefully the innards have been updated/enhanced also, even just a little bit, and the wi-fi hdmi will make my revamping of the living room far easier. Now to figure out the best and cheapest screen to use with it.....off to the screen forum!
