So, I have a dedicated basement space that I am going to be doing a projector.

Screen size is going to be around 110", with only one row of seating at 12' or so. Throw can be anything from 10' to 18' so I have alot of flexibility. I plan on going with a Carada Brilliant White (1.4 gain) screen. The room has total light control, with gray walls and a flat dark brown ceiling. Most of the use will be gaming/tv/movies/sports, in that order. It will have NO 3D use at all...

So originally I have been planning on getting the Epson 5020. I am a little worried about it being too bright. Then I started seeing if I could save some by doing a Epson 3020. And then I stumbled on the good ol' 8350. I can not find any reviews that comment how much better the 3020/5020 are than the 8350. Some reviews I found showed the 8350 to be better than both in 2D and black levels. And since 3D wont be used, would I be wasting money going up to the other projectors. And then there is the input lag that seems twice as bad on the newer 3020/5020 when compared to the 8350.

Any thoughts? Have I overlooked another projector brand that fits what I need for the budget of $1500 - $2500?

Thanks!

The 5020 is the better pj image wise, and some have noted the gaming lag isn't to bad, only noticeable on the more competitive FPS type games. That 1.4 gain screen might be a little bright if you end up mounting it any closer than 15'. Another option to look into would be the Benq 7000. http://www.projectorreviews.com/game-projector-blog/review-benq-w7000-projector.html Gaming lag reported as 35 ms.
I think most issues have been worked out with firmware upgrades, but check the main thread here. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1381679/official-benq-w7000-owners-thread
Arts comparisons,

and
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1391476/coderguys-top-projector-picks for a good straight forward look at specific pj's in your price range. Toward the end of the thread, it's mentioned that AVS here might have some B Stock JVC's, another option if 2D is the most important aspect and you can deal with slightly less lamp life, but deal with some gaming lag maybe. So you should give them a call.

Thanks for all the options! I was thinking the 1.4 gain screen would be too much as well. The gentleman at Carada is the one that recommended it to me with the main reason being I can run the PJ in eco mode and still get great brightness.

I am a little worried on the lag of the 5020, I do play alot of FPS gaming.

Ill look into your links and keep on researching. Thanks!

If you have no issue with JVC B-stcok with 2 year warranty from AVS, try contact Mike. It's better than Epson or any LCD models, except maybe in lumens. It's a huge beast.
