What options do I have for a projector in $500 range? Also one thing I'm not sure of is say a projector of a native SVGA resolution anything higher is just cropped right?

Sometimes during sales or specials, you can find an Optoma hd20, Acer 6510bd, or a Viewsonic Pro8200 (usually only refurbs) around that price.
There is a place in this forum (dedicated thread area), where people discuss the latest deals and prices.

You want at least 720p Native, but all three of those projectors above are 1080p which is higher than 720p. You don't want anything less than 720p, and if you use a lower resolution PJ sending a higher res signal, it is re-scaled (you had the right idea, but cropped is not the word I would use).

Hope this helps...

The Acer 6510bd seems like a European projector?

Nah, not Euro, they sell it on Newegg.com

There doesn't seem to be any incredible deals I know about in the sub-$1k market atm, but I don't watch it that closely. Check woot.com and keep your eyes open in this part of the forum:

Also sometimes you can get good deals on used or refurbs (some refurbs even come with warranties).

The Trumbull Ct Best Buy shows a Optoma H20 on clearance for $499. I don't know how close it is to you, but you can actually add it to your cart online but you have to go to the store for pickup.

It's not that far but that's not a 3D ready projector.

Sorry, once I started reading the thread, I forgot the 3d in the title.

I did the same thing, I forgot to look at the title that says "3D", so my recommendations were all bunk. I often read threads without reading titles. I guess the Benq w710st or something might suffice, looks like he will need to stick with a 720p. If he spent a little more, might be able to find an Acer 9500bd refurb or used.

If you look, eBay is filled with hundreds of gametimes with broken dlp chips. Good riddance to one of those.
