I am looking to get a projector and screen and was wondering how big of a screen I would need to get? My viewing is 80% 2D and 20% 3D and my viewing distance is 13 feet. My room is not light controlled due to 2 windows in the room. I can always get curtains. I also need a projector and was also looking for some opinions. My budget for the screen and projector is around $2000 and under.

Thanks David

Build your own screen for cheap. You can make it any size.

Was looking for an actual screen size recommendation based on the distance.

I have a 100" fixed frame Elite Screens Cinewhilte with 1.1 gain 2 windows as well in my room, with curtains. I am sitting about 9' away from the screen and Im happy with the image. My projector is a BenQ W1070. My room is 11' x 13' in size. I got this projector because of the deal Newegg was running last month, now if I were looking I would wait to see reviews of the BenQ W1500 when it comes out. At your distance maybe a 110" at least.

I was looking at my room when I got home and I have two problems I forgot about. One is that I have a ceiling fan and i will need to be able to somehow have the projector mounted below the fan. The second problem is that my speakers are set up off center of the room. I guess I could fix this if I got a projector with both vertical and horizontal lens shift. I am looking at the Panasonic PT-AE8000U. Is there any other projectors that would be able to do what I need such as an Epson?

This is the part that matters.

Viewing distance * .66 = screen width.
13' * .66 = 104" wide screen.

This is the general rule for 'center of theater' feel. If you like sitting a bit closer than midway in a theater, then go a bit larger with your screen. If you like sitting a bit further away, then go smaller with the screen. Don't take a guess at what will be best, truly think about what you and your family like and where they like sitting in a theater. If you all like being close to the middle of the theater, then stick with the 104" width.

That works out to about a 120" diagonal 16:9 screen.
