Hi guys,

Like the title says, I need help picking a projector and screen for the room. I don't need or want 3D if that matters. The screen itself can be fixed, retractable, or whatever. Can you help?

Please note the 12' is the farthest away the projector can be. It may need to be 11' away.

Correction. I'm going to ceiling mount it so the distance from the wall is variable.

Read through this and see if anything jumps out at you.

I think it's past time to upgrade my equipment and my room.

You can do-it-yourself on the screen and get into a more expensive projector, but you may not want to or be up for that, so with a 12' throw and no care for 3D, then I might go this route...

Optoma HD20 - $800

Focupix Fixed Frame Screen - Under $300

You do have a lot of other options, and could get a current design like the BenQ W1070 for a bit more or Optoma HD25.

I would suggest an Elite Sable fixed frame 100 inch screen with Cinewhite screen material. Current price at Amazon is just over $250 with free shipping (LINK).

For the projector you have a few DLP models that you could consider, but these either have no lens shift adjustment, or only a very limited range vertical lens shift in the case of the BenQ W1070. Before investing in any of these projectors you need to determine what your projector placment options are then decide which of the specific projector models are compatible. So here is the short list of under $1,000 models you may want to consider (approx. street price is listed, but you may find a better deal).:

Acer H6510BD - price near $800

BenQ W1070 - price under $1,000

Vivitek H1080FD (or perhaps the replacement H1085FD, if you can find one) - price around $900

Optoma HD25 - price under $950

Of these 4 models the BenQ1070 is probably overall the best, but as I mentioned above you need to first investigate to see which models are compatible with your screen size and location and your projector position mounting optons.
