I just came across the following press release by Canon, announcing their new LED projector:

As I only found one mention of this projector in a comment on another thread I thought I'd start a thread for this specific projector.
According to the product website, here are the specs:

Imaging Device 0.45" DLP Panel
Aspect Ratio 16:10
Native Resolution 1280 x 800
Brightness 500 Lumens
Contrast Ratio 3000:1

Although Canon states the native resolution as 1280 x 800, it seems like the projector is using the same 0.45" DMD/DLP Panel as all of the other WXGA LED projectors (Qumi, LG PA70G, Acer K330, Optoma ML-500, Viewsonic PLED-W500), i.e. 1140 x 912 diamond pixels.

The suggested retail price of $799 seems on the high end for a product that that appears late to market and doesn't look like it has any major selling points above what the competition has had on sale for the last twelve months or more.

Or am I missing something? Does Canon have a higher build quality? Image quality? Better lenses?

Bit off topic, but I personally am still waiting for an affordable full HD LED projector, ideally with a zoom lens (to make the projector placement easier in my living room). It looks like the Qumi Q7 will have a zoom lens, but it also appears that it will be using the same diamond pixel DMD.

Finally my impression is that the better performance of LED/laser hybrids (e.g. in light output) does not justify their higher price for my needs. I'm not much of an expert on this, but I would imagine hybrids being a compromise with certain limitations (one light source fades faster than the other), so I would always opt for an LED projector or hope for a full laser projector. Appreciate any comments on this as well.
