OKay so i am in the hunt for my first projector...my receiver is a full 1080p 3D receiver and does some 1080p upscaling...i use a roku 2 for netflix, pandora etc...and my ps3 for blu rays that i havent copied yet...i can tell the difference on my tv (52" samsung) from a 720 picture and a 1080 picture and was wondering should i just spend the extra money on a 1080p projector or would 720p work ok? There seems to be about a 50% increase for a 1080P projector...i am looking at the epson 8350 (of course), viewsonic pro 8200, and the benq w1070 for 1080p...im also looking at the optoma hd series, and epson series projectors that are 720p.

Also, are refurbished projectors really okay to purchase? I have seen some for the benq that run about 499 refurb for the w1070.

Most of us think 1080p projectors are better worth the price. Most 1080p projectors offer better contrast, better color, and more other features than the 720p counterparts. It's not all about contrast, but the quality differences go together.

if that's true, YES, it'll be twice as obviously on a 100+ inch screen from the same viewing distance.

normally I would say quality over quantity all the way. that is i'd take a good 720p image over a crappy 1080p one anyday, but the truth is i'm not sure if anybody's making good 720p home theatre projectors anymore

I recently went from a 720p projector to a 1080p projector, and personally, the number of pixels was pretty much irrelevant. the improvements I noticed where in contrast, black levels, color, etc. I sit further back than most would recommend though

I started with a 720p projector then upgraded to a 1080p projector and could easily tell a difference between the 2. Dont waste your $ on the 720p because you will eventually get upgraditis.
