I did on online chat them about the $50 credit., and they said they would send me info about a week ago, I got nothing. Might be I have to wait till the credit card bill is paid. Didn't get that yet.

Ha I guess I got lazy!

By the way just a tip for everyone here who asks for calibration numbers and thinks if I borrow someone elses they will work great to my room and taste too. There is nothing like playing with the numbers and calibrating the projector to your room/taste. Every number/suggestion I have seen in this thread says to put brilliant color down to 1 (assuming that is off) but I have mine cranked to 7 as I love the pop and to be honest i dont have an ideal wall/ceiling color in my house, and to my taste 7 gives me a great brightness/pop picture in my setup...I played battlefield 4 last night on the pc after watching cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 with my kids and both times I was blown away by the picture and what this projector can do! so again play with the humbers and calibrate it the best you can..you will be better off I believe.

It is no longer on the Amazon site, it just comes up with the projector and the rest of the info. It did have a disclaimer that it could be pulled at any time.

I too initiated a chat with Amazon and asked about the linked page saying there was a credit. But, like others, I didn't see it on the product page when I ordered yesterday. I was told that marketing will be sending me an email shortly if I qualified. (I'm assuming I do?).

I was happy before seeing this, now it feels like a very good deal.

First: open up your zoom lens and make the picture as big as possible. (the problem is hidden when the zoom is narrow. Not all the lens is being used I assume.)

Second: use the built-in menu and position it in ALL four corners of the screen. I leave it in the middle as the default. But there is a selection within the menu choices where you can put it in all the quadrants of the screen. That will tell you what isn't perfectly focused. Of course you should be able to move it to all positions without refocusing.

Good luck.

PS: You can also use your computer if you are so connected. Any full text stuff should tell the tale.

Well, like anything you read about on the internet... you just never know what you'll think until you install it in your room. I'm coming from an aging HD70 (original bulb) for comparison. I installed the HD131Xe in the same mount, did a little adjusting and turned it on. Wow. What a difference. Then I plugged in the AVforum calibration numbers. Even more wow. I have one window that always let in ambient light so I was worried that I should have ordered the HD25e. Nah, this is way bright even in the eco mode.

I am excited to re-watch some movies now!

I purchased mine 13 days ago. didn't go through the promotion page. I just called customer service to see if I qualify and they gave me the credit. they initially couldn't find the promotion linked to the product. then I asked them to Google search "get $50 amazon.com credit with purchase of optoma hd131xe home theater projector". they found the page and put me on hold for awhile and came back to let me know they're giving me the credit. what a deal.

Quick question. The HD131Xe does 1080p @ 60Hz right? Projector Central only has it listed @ 24Hz (it lists the others like the HD25e as @60 Hz though).

I was just wanting to make sure as I plan to use my future projector as both a HT and gaming projector, but not having 1080p@60Hz would be a deal breaker.

Also, as a side note. Does anyone know if the color wheel changes speed on this projector? I've read that the BenQ w1070's color wheel runs 3.2x @ 24Hz, 4x @ 60Hz, and 5x @ 50Hz (so the best refresh rate to eliminate RBE is 50Hz). I was just curious as to if the HD131Xe (or HD25e or etc.) always runs @ 2x or if it also runs at different speeds depending on the refresh rate.

I hope someone can answer you specifically but I can tell you the color wheel is one of the slower ones. It is not a problem for me. But I notice slightly more RBE on the HD131Xe than I noticed on my HD70. The increased contrast and brightness might be the reason.

Hi! I've measured primary colors timings on my HD131xe and got 144Hz/2.4x @24p and 120Hz/2x @60p.

I am pretty sure it does. I believe when I turned off 24hz on my pS3 to test some issues it flipped to 60hz

Update 2:

It looks like my fault. Optoma tech (very helpful) made me realise my ceilign mount is not properly setup, which is probably causing this. So it could be the idiot between keybaord and chair. :-(
I will update on the weekend after I properly mount re-mount it. The corners looks very sharp...

To be continued....

Last night I did notice geometry issues. Instead of rectangular image I’m getting trapezoid shape. First I noticed this from a coffee table (quick test to test corners and I thought it was just projector placement). Then after installing it on ceiling I’m getting the same problem, but reverse trapezoid picture. I have to use V-Keystone +2 (even maybe +3 to fix the problem). I hate V-Keystone because it ruins fonts on my desktop and it is unacceptable in my books. Without V-Keystone if I stretch the picture enough to fill the frame, the black velvet wrapped 4” frame is very forgiving, however if I display any squares/rectangular figures in the middle of the screen (within the frame) all become trapezoid shaped… so I would have to use v-keystone to correct this issue, which is no-go for me.

Not sure if this is effect of fixing soft corners, faulty new optical engine, poor installation of optical engine or something shifted/moved during transportation. I tried resetting projector without any improvement. Also I checked quickly service menu, and fw is the same.

I already contacted Optoma tech support under original RMA. Most likely I will RMA it again… To be continued….

BTW... I still love the PJ, please don't take me wrong, but I cannot stand soft cornder issues or geomery issues.... I hope Optoma will fix/correct this problem....

only trapezoidal image I got was when the PJ was not level. Once I leveled it out, it was much better.

I looked the manual up online and it lists 1080@50 and 1080@60 as available for HDMI so that clears that up at least. Good to know the timings as well.

I was comparing the HD131Xe to the W1070 (as I've seen a LOT of people do) and technically it seems the W1070 has a few advantages but from my research it has a lot of quality issues.

The HD131Xe seems to suffer from a corner focus issue and possibly some geometry issues (has Clark17 been the only one to report it so far?). However the W1070 seems to suffer from brightness uniformity issues (left to right), focus issues (some W1070s are blurry unless pushed to max zoom), and dust getting into the lense (although the HD131Xe may also get that eventually to be fair, just no reports yet due to it being newer).

The difference is that it seem Optoma is willing to fix their reported issues whereas Benq has been saying their reported problems are "within spec" and refusing to resolve them.

So, bottom line. Unless Benq starts fixing the reported issues with the W1070 I see no reason anyone should even consider it, even if it is superior at certain things.

When it comes down to it the Benq is really only slightly better at color (thanks to the RGBRGB wheel vs the RGBCYW), although it's much better at RBE (thanks to the 6x effective wheel vs the 2x effective wheel). Whereas the HD131Xe has better calibrated lumens and contrast ratio, as well as having faster latency for gaming.

For me in a living room (4 windows with blinds/curtains, large open room connecting to a couple other rooms, white ceiling, shiny wood floors, etc.) I figure I need all the lumens/contrast I can get. It'd be nice if the color wheel was faster to eliminate RBE but I guess we can't have everything @ this price point lol.

Luckily I won't be buying for a few more months and maybe everything will be ironed out by then (or new models released). smile.gif

For the geometry issue see two posts above you. And I see 1080 24hz often. 3D movies usually, I think.

Received my new 131xe last night! (Estimated shipping was 4th - It arrived 30th!)
Using the settings I previously mentioned, projecting onto a white wall, getting 110" of pure 1920 x 1080 PC Gaming.

Bare in mind this is my first projector but I couldn't have asked for better.
If anyone is interested in seeing quality let me know & I'll endeavor to upload some HD pictures.

Well said...

@ Maconi I'm the only one with this problem, because of the user error. I will confirm this this weekend. I'm too busy with my kids to try it before... I have nothing but good things to say about Optoma, their customer service rocks. To fix the soft corner issue took a week. At the moment Optoma tech help me to find offset issue with my installation. I was happy HD65 user and I'm happy HD25e user. I wish I didn't jump the gun with my post about 'geometry issues'...

I did a quick search but I want something concrete....Is the noise in picture on this projector related to brilliant color? I have to crank up brilliant color to get a nice bright picture (even in bright mode) in a living room with one light on, my hd33 did pretty well here...and its not that the hd131 isnt bright, its just not what I expected over the hd33 without brilliant color cranked up...which is fine, but noise appears in the picture in certain scenes...we watched National Treasure 2 last night and it popped up on2-3 of the scenes so...anything I can do? am I just being picky lol.

Unfortunately I'm suffering from RBE with this Optoma. Adjusting the settings helped some, but they're still there and still bothering me. I may have to switch to the BenQ if the color wheel speed is indeed faster. Is this true that the Optoma is only spinning at 2X? I thought it was between 4 - 6x? The faster the color wheel, the lower the RBE, right? So now I'm deciding between my Optoma, BenQ or the Epson 2030. I have 3 more weeks to play with this Optoma to decide. I like everything about this PJ (low noise, great color, etc) except the RBE. I'm reading thru this thread page by page and after 2 days I'm only on page 13 lol (reading while at work). I see some of you have tried other PJ's and compared. Anybody else who suffers from RBE and has experience with both? Any advice would be appreciated.

Unfortunately I'm suffering from RBE with this Optoma. Adjusting the settings helped some, but they're still there and still bothering me. - I also see RBE with the fully calibrated 131Xe, although it's only on white in pictures (e.g I see it on subtitles quite consistently).
- In regards to the color wheel, I remember reading the 131 runs at x4 speed but I cannot find any information to back that up.

Not much help I know, just felt like joining in.
