There is one thing so far that i dislike about the HD131xe, no idea how this is with other projecters.

I mostply play videogames and sometimes watch movies or tv shows. The settings of the projector are very nice for my gaming now, but for movies it's just no good at all. When i watch a movie or tv show, faces of people are like they have been in the sun for waaaaaaaaay too long and it simply doesn't look too good. With tv's, in my case my previous plasma tv, i just had one preset for gaming and another one for movies/cinema.

The problem with the HD131xe is there seems to be only one 'user' preset. So let's say i choose the Cinema preset for movies, but i still don't like how the colours look, as soon as i change it, it becomes 'User' and all the settings i have for my gaming are now for movies too. There really is no way to have multiple custom presets? Each time i want to watch a movie now, i need to alter several settings for it to look decent....most of the time i end up changing nothing.

determine what means more to you. Natural "REAL" content. Or questionably nicer "fake" content? lol
I calibrated with a disc. I dont play many games, but even uncalibrated, the games I played looked good enough for me. I guess I dont expect games to look real is my problem?

I used several gameplay videos from Youtube and other sites of the same game i was playing and from there i tweaked the settings on the projector to make it look similar to that. I just wish this projector would give me the option to at least have a second custom preset. Ah well, what are you gonna do right?

There were a few settings that made games look significantly better, but movies worse.

Yeah, the lack of multiple user settings is a bummer.
Finding a happy medium is your only choice. Maybe make it so that movies look good and then just pump up the unnatural contrast and color by putting Brilliant Color very, very high. Not too much menu manipulation that way.

Yeah, it's annoying. I had to set BC to 3 to get the 24hz and 60hz greyscales even close to each other. No idea why, but that's just how it is.

It just means your image is not scaled to fit your screen. You will have to play with the zoom and focus settings manually and maybe internally within the settings if it bothers you.
I could never get mine %100, but its not as noticable anymore that I got it dialed in.

I get this on the XBox360, but not my HTPC. I think the HDMI chip in the Xbox that does the scaling it to blame here.

You might want to check in the menu settings. On the Display tab there are things to check.
Try Edge Mask and try Zoom and try Image Shift. Also make sure Keystone is at 0. (Unless you are using it to adjust for your offset correction.)

There is also a reset on the Options page (I think) that will reset the projector to the defaults. Someone might have made adjusts to your projector before you got it and they need removing.

You should not have that much large space of projected dark border around the lighted image area.

Good luck.

So I just got my elite screen 120" set up tonight and just got done watching my first blu ray on it and damn. This thing is the **** for 720 plus the 300 for the screen. Pretty unbelievable. Thanks for all the help you guys gave me last week or so haha.

I have mine few weeks now

Awesome video quality for the price

Only bummer is rainbow effect on black or dark scenes sci fi outer space movies

I got the expensive rf glasses
Didnt notice that much improvement in more light vs non rf glasses

There is no chance optoma will ever increase color wheel rate?
Thats the only down side for me

I have not register yet to send tech support email

Anyone want to ask if possible to increase color wheel rate through firmware

I know its a long shot
Just desperate to kill rainbows

HA so the focus issue saga continues, I sent back my hd131xe that really wasnt as bad as the first one but it was still slightly there, and got a hd25e from amazon, this one has about a 1/4 of the screen out of focus and I mean out of focus, text is blurry in top right hand or bottom left hand corner depending on where I decide to zero in the focus....I called optoma and the woman said she has never heard of this at all...REALLY?! come on....Deciding wether to send it back to amazon or optoma....really do like what I see from the projector and trying to not be TOO picky as amazon is probably tired of the returns but there has to be a solution here...she said that it would be about two weeks before I would have a projector again.

Its not just text, its pictures and video as well, if text is out of focus the picture will be as well...it wont be as razor sharp as it normall is, I could tell in a basketball game last night the crowd on the bottom was in focus where as the top left looked like a little haze was over them almost, just not as sharp. I think its enough where if you didnt notice text and werent looking for it most people would pass it by and not realize they have a problem.

To check out the focus issue use the menu positioning setting in the menu and try it out in ALL four corner positions. And open the zoom to the full wide position.

yep. I think this will show people if they have it or not. I was quoted a two week turn around by optoma to send this in for service. I was hoping for 3-4 days!

Ouch. I have to get mine in too. Darn.
I use the narrowest setting on the zoom so I don't see it. But if I ever go to the 120" screen that will fit in my HT I'll certainly see the problem. I currently have a 100" screen.

I dont want to scare anyone off from this projector, it really is a good one, I am sending the HD25e back to amazon and trying my luck with a brand new hd131xe (will be my third, again the second one had just a little tiny spot that had the out of focus, it really did have a nice picture!)

Second one had a cap and I noticed it was a shipment from optoma of like 24 where as the first was of 150 which leads me to believe it was newer to be honest I should have kept that one instead of getting hd25e used just thought I could squeeze extra lumens out and get lucky on focus issue

Message them and ask for one or a discount. I got mine a few weeks ago, and it came with a lens cap. Also google "optoma hd 131xe amazon promo" copy the link and ask for the 50 dollar amazon credit. It worked for me.

Good luck

What does the lens cap do? Just keeps it clean? Do you leave it on all the time or just when you arent using it? And can I just order one?

Hi all,

I'm new here and this is my first post. Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents about the HD131xe. I love it and it has exceeded my expectations. I have this on Carl's ProGray screen cut to be 130" and this is me playing PS4 BF4 on it. My camera phone doesn't do it justice but it is quite bright and vibrant even with partial ambient light.
